Sunday, April 05, 2009 at 03:16 AMI have been fortunate in many ways. The nausea simply triggers or enhances my headache, it never makes me pay homage to the porcelain god. Once the weather broke last week so did my headache. In talking with a friend at breakfast this morning, she and several others all had a rough time last week. Now we have storm warnings for Palm Sunday, I hope it doesn't have the same effect, although I am more hypersenitive to another co-worker's smoky clothes tonight. We shall see. Otherwise, I continue to manage pretty well.

Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 11:04 AMI have had constant migraines for months now and going on years of dealing with them. People ask, how are you able to work and I say I have no choice in the matter. I am going to have a migraine whether I am at home or at work. Now when it gets to the point of utter pain and pressure then I give in and go home. But that is after trying everything possible.
I recently had the lap band surgery to lose weight to help the migraines...and 60 pounds later, they are still here and then some. Granted I am thrilled with the 60 pounds gone:)
I have a condition called orthostatic hypotension that can cause headaches and that is what they think is causing the ones I am one having now. Plus having issues with blood pressure too.
So you have my deepest sympathy and understanding. I hate waking up in the middle of the night and going oh man, not again!

I know how it is, I am the sole wage-earner for my family, and so I can't afford to go home when a migraine strikes. I take my meds, and just grit my teeth and suck it up and go on, hoping I don't have to make a run for the porcelain bowl. It's bad enough to have a close up view of my own, but it's nasty to have to get that close to one that is used by others.
Thankfully I've found an anti-nausea med that works that doesn't knock me out cold (Zofran) and once it kicks in I can usually avoid the porcelain bowl if I recognize that I'm getting nauseous soon enough. That helps a lot in letting me avoid having to go home, as does migraine-specific pain meds, in addition to the abortive meds. Yeah, carrying around a 3 drug cocktail for migraine attacks all the time is a bit of an inconvenience, but I'd rather do that and be able to pay my bills than be incapacitated on a regular basis. Unfortunately excedrin migraine doesn't help me, so I have to use the prescription stuff like fioricet w/codeine or midrin.
I've had 2 migraines in the last 72 hours, including today, so I totally get how you feel.
