How did I get this way?

By navajoearl Wednesday, February 10, 2010

Hi, this is my first post. I am native american in my late 40's who began having weird headaches every time I lost sleep or lifted weights which never happened before. I learned it's called migraines. As I work in construction sometimes odd hours, naturally I get these frequently now. Anytime, I exert myself it happens and thats at least once a week. Today I am fine and I had an easy day, no exertion involved. Its okay to have these headaches, its part of who I am now. I'm on a quest to learn more about migraines and eventually to deal with them on my own terms. I haven't seen you yet doc, but one of these days we will sit crosslegged on the floor and talk. Until then I will keep my chin up.Wink

Hey there,

Since you already got the official greeting, I'll just hello and welcome again! We are glad you are here and look forward to hearing more from you.

Have you been to a doctor since you started getting Migraines? It is really important to have an accurate diagnosis and make sure you have a good treatment plan - you know - what to take when you get an attack so you can stop it quickly and effectively. One of the most important things is to become an edcated patiet and learn all you can about Migraine disease. Having the right diagnosis and being able to get care if you're away from home is real important too. You can read more about this in The Type of Migraine Does Matter.

Trigger identification and management is a vital component of managing Migraine disease. One of the best tools for identifying triggers is a good Migraine diary. You can download a free diary workbook from our article Your Migraine and Headache Diary. Some of us have food triggers; some of us don't. It's advisable to determine if your daughter does, and an elimination diet is the best way to do that. For more information and a workbook on this, see Managing Migraine - Migraine Trigger Foods.

Keep us posted on how you are doing, and maybe we'll see you over in the forum?
