Both my husband and I suffer from migraines, so we feel each others pain. Mine seem to have gotten not as bad as I get older, and are mainly around my menstral cycle.
My husbands migraines are a totally different story. He has had them off and on since childhood, and over the years they have gotten worse. They are so bad now he has been on short term disability since Sept 2010 (should have been July 2010 but one doc he had would not fill out the paper).
We have only been to 1 neurologist so far, but have been through 2 family docs. We are scheduled to see a doc from the migraine clinic in Alexandria. Thank you to those that referenced them here on the site.
We have tried many different meds but they have mainly been bp and anti depression / anti anxiety meds. We did try 1 triptan (Imatrex) but they just seem to make them migraines worse for him.
I feel so bad, I cannot do anything to help him when he is sick. He tells me allt he time how worthless, helpless, and hopeless he feels. I know this is not him and is just the depression and anxiety from all the migraines he has had lately, but the current neurologist doesn't seem to believe us. She even mentioned him going back to work soon!! That is absurd to me since he is worse off now than he was 6 months ago when we started seeing her.
If we lived closer to where he worked mabey he could try and see how he does, but we live 2 hours from where he works and they have told me he cannot come back without a full release. I would be the first one to advocate him going back if I thought he was ready, I just dont see it right now.
Sorry for the ranting on about this, but it is nice to know there are other people out there that are suffering like we are. Its nice to find a place where we are not thought of as crazy (at least when we talk about migraine pain lol)

I just sent you a welcome with all the "business" information in it, so I won't go over that again, but will hopefully give you some information to help both you and your husband.
One of the big problems we have as Migraineurs is getting an accurate diagnosis. Here's the catch - Neurologists may be fine doctors, but it is hard for them to be experts in one area because they treat so many different conditions like MS, stroke, epilepsy and Parkinsons. A Migraine specialist is an expert who treats one disorder - ours - Migraines and headaches. And it sounds like it is time to find you both a good Migraine specialist, not just a neurologist who says they are a "headache specialist." It's important to note that neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists. I see that you do have an appointment with a specialist, great! Do let us know how that goes, ok?
It can be so frustrating trying to find the right medication that works for us; it almost feels as if we've tried them all and done them all - but with so many possible preventives, it's literally impossible to have tried them all. There are now over 100 medications and supplements that can be used for Migraine and headache prevention. See Migraine preventive medications - too many options to give up! for more information.
Do join us in the discussion forum, where you both can find support and information from people who are going through similar situations. If you'd like to talk with other Migraineurs and get some additional information and support, come join our discussion forum. You'll need to register again once there because it's a separate membership database, but you can use the same member name, email address, and password that you used here. I hope this helps,
