I have to say that my rice cooker is the best thing I"ve ever bought. You put food and water into it, push the button, and take a 20 min. nap. Foods done. Even if you sleep a bit more than 20 min. your food is kept warm. Its litterally no work on your part. I cook ALOT of things in my rice cooker besides rice. Rice itself is great during a migraine though. No strong smell or flavor. Here are some of my favorite things to cook in my rice cooker:
Lentils and Rice
Put 2 cups of rice, 1 cup of lentils and 3 cups of water into the rice cooker.
Press button
Add olive oil, salt, pepper and eat. Saute some onions and garlic to mix in if you feel up to it. Everyone I make this for loves it. Even if they don't like lentils.
Quinoa
Quinoa is a complete protien grain. Its used sort of like couscous, and has a similar texture to couscous as well, but a nuttier flavor.
Put a cup of quinoa and 1.5 cups of water into the rice cooker.
Add spices or soup broth for flavoring. (my favorite is to add sazon flavoring- the stuff used for hispanic yellow rice)
Push button
Eat when its done. You can add grilled veggies if you like. Mushrooms go well with quinoa, but the smell of cooking mushrooms always makes me sick when I have a migraine...
Rice and Steamed Veggetables
My rice cooker has a steam basket for the top of the cooker. I would recomend getting a rice cooker with this feature. You can steam vegetables and dumplings up there.
Put 2 cups of rice and 2 cups of water in rice cooker.(more for brown rice)
Put green beans, julienned carrots, Brocolli or other small pieces of veggetables in the steam basket.
Press button
Make a vinegarrette: Lemon juice, Soy Sauce or Vinegar, Olive Oil, salt pepper, spices
After everything is cooked, put vinegarrete on the veggies, eat veggies with rice.
There are a ton of things you can cook in the rice cooker. Oatmeal, soup, bread, etc. Make sure to get a high quailty japanese rice cooker though.

Dolores,
Thank you for sharing a great suggestion and great sounding recipes! The last thing I ever want to do when suffering with a migraine is cook, even though (strangely) I often have quite an appetite when the worst of the pain has passed.
I've often thought about getting a rice cooker and now I think you've convinced me!
