Tuesday, October 06, 2009 at 09:56 PMHello, and welcome to MyMigraineConnection.com!
Migraine is a genetic neurological disease thought to be caused by overactive neurons in our brains and genetics. I'm sorry to hear about your daughter's Lyme disease and Migraines, that is a tough combination. Having said that, I wonder about the long term affects of taking bio-identical progesterone on one so young.
Menstrually related Migraines can be triggered by many things, first of which is our fluctuating hormones. On top of that add active Lyme disease, changes in sleeping patterns or changes in the weather and even certain foods - these can all trigger a Migraine attack in someone who already has Migraine disease. For more information on Migraine triggers, continue reading our Migraine Trigger page HERE.

Shirley,
I am so happy to read your update. I know this has been and incredibly difficult struggle for you and your daughter as you've worked so hard to get correct diagnoses and tried so many things that haven't worked. It sounds like you've done some amazing detective work to figure out that both Lyme disease and migraine are involved in your daughter's case.
I have to admit I've been eager to hear how your daughter has been progressing on the regime of magnesium, vitamin D, Omega-3 and natural progesterone for her migraines, and I'm so glad it is bringing about such improvement for her. I, too, have found remarkable improvement in my predominantly hormone triggered migraines on basically the same regime (I also use vitamin B6 and transdermal estradiol - as I am perimenopausal - but not St. John's wort.) I was very skeptical about bio-identical progesterone working as a migraine preventive, and if I hadn't experienced the same direct corrolation you mention, I wouldn't have believed it either. I'm now four months into my treatment with the progesterone and have continued to see improvement every month. I'm also so grateful my migraine specialist was open to my trying this approach after we found I could not tolerate several of the standard preventives.
Good luck to you both as you continue to work on controling the Lyme component of your daughter's condition.
