Just Coping

By Jayne Pickard Friday, October 12, 2007
I started with migraine around 12 years old, back then (1972) it was just seen as a bad headache, I was shoved in the sick bay and left there all day to sleep. Since then they have been spasmodic, one maybe two a year until te past 5 or 6 years when I get one at least once a month. I start with a warning pain/pressure behind my left eye. When that starts I know one is on its way and try to stem it off by taking Ibuprofen and Paracetamol.I'm more often than not sick too or at least feel extremely nauseous. I have tried almost all the triptans and hated the side effects. If I don't catch it in time, I just have to ride it out in bed and pray that it doesn't last. For 24 hours afterwards I'm worth nothing and feel weak and lifeless.
A Pain in the Neck...Literally!

Hello, and welcome to MyMigraineConnection.com!

Migraine is a genetic neurological disease. If we get a Migraine attack more than 3 or 4 times a month it may be time to talk to your doctor about a preventive medication.

Sometimes we can create another problem called Medication Overuse Headache by taking certain drugs more than 2-3 times during the week. Ibuprofen and paracetamol are two of those medications. The only way to stop MOH is to discontinue the offending medication right away.

Thank you for creating a SharePost.  SharePosts are a form of blogging, and there are many things you can do with them. You can share an experience, suggest something that's helped you, use SharePosts as a Migraine and headache journal, and many other things.

We also have a discussion forum that you may want to check out. Especially if you have questions or are looking for information, you may find the interaction on the forum to be quite helpful. This forum is a great place to get support.
