A Pain in the Neck...Literally!

By Jayne Pickard Monday, October 15, 2007

After 5 car accidents...none of them my fault all rear end shunts apart from an argument with a fork lift which I won't go into in this...all resulting in whiplash. I was relieved to read the news that neck problems can cause headaches. I have a disc prolapse in my neck and have had for around 15 years now which over time has worsened. Of course the accidents don't help, but my neurosurgeon is reluctant to operate.

I recently had an MRI after complaining of arm pain which is constant now. Gabapentin helped immensely but I couldn't cope with the side effects of swollen fingers and feet. I'm hoping that the outcome of the scan will be such that my surgeon will relent and agree to operate. The pain in my neck/arm/hand has become unbearable even with 2 Tramadol (100mg) twice a day with 2 Tylex (30/500mg) up to 4 times a day.

A headache or a migraine???

My wife and I both have bone spurs on the neck from severe whiplash years ago.  We have been taking Glucosamine with Chondroitin 900mg three times a day; after 3 months of doing this it kicked in with fantastic results.  We have added shark cartiledge also; two a day, and this helps even further.  Lifting heavy items causes our pain in the neck, and wife's migraine, to kick in so we try to limit what we lift.  It's hard though as it never hurts while we are doing the lifting, it takes sometimes 24 hours before we feel the pain.

Thanks Jim. I tried Glucosamine and it didn't seem to make a difference. I have now got Amitryptiline from my GP and touch wood, so far, it seems to be making a difference on one tablet at night with no side effects Big Grin.

I try to limit lifting heavy objects but being a single mum its hard not to!
