I've heard this was good for migraines. It's suppose to be a "newBreak", I don't know sounds like the same stuff that's been around, with a lot of side effects.
Does anyone know about this?

My doctor gave me a script for fioricet to try for my agonizing migraines, which lasted for one to three days at times, and would make me vomit horribly(often breaking blood vessles on my face!)and ruin my life within those long hours! At first the fioricet were helpful...they lessened the massive pain...but the nausea was never delt with, the light/smell sentsitivity was terrible too.I would have to leave work! And driving home was noT easy...or safe really..you eyes are just noT at 100% with a full blown migraine! At any rate,my neorologist has since given me "treximet"...which is thee best thing ever...but at a high price even with ins...i was paying $40 for 11 pills...!then through my plan via mail...i pay $65 for thrr months...one package of 9 pills times 3 packets, still pricey. Now after I was laid off in Jan 2010...its impossible for me to even get that great 3 month plan...schools coming up and I have a ten yr old...looking at jobs but not alot to look at.So...good luk with the migraines...they are in no way, shape or form a "headache" as some call them...it is a horroble painfull, life sucking ordeal...and not just for the person suffering through it,their kids, family too!
I totally agree. They are agonizing. To say the least. I recently tried botox, and it's been a big help for me. It's not for everyone. I still am getting headaches 3 times a week, but they are so minimal, and I do get releif with anything so far. I had one really bad day since the shots. They are about 80% shown to work. I think it has to do with the doctor giving them. I found a Neurologist, but unfortunatly, I have to pay. But this doctor is $600-$1200. I've heard it will take the next 3 years to get insurance to approves these., ...I'm hoping it will be sooner! I hope you find releif with Treximet. I know that it has Aleive, (naproxen) in it. That is the only thing that ever did help my migraines in the very beginning. Take care!
when i frist began taking it years ago..... i was about 18 or so it worked great. then i went trough this great 6 year period where i was completely migraine free.... until october 2005, i got 1... and 3 months later another. then as my luck would have it 10 months later they came back with a vengance, and nothing really helps.
i've been on several prevenatives, all with limited results. abotrives, well lets just say that treximet is my first line of defense and if it doesnt' work i have my cephadyn and phenegrin. if they fail it means doctors office and shots...... which is where i think last nights dinner will put me before it's over......
Oh.I know how that is. I hate going to Urgent care or the ER. It helps for awhile, then you are back at it the next day. It's crazy, there just has to be help someway for migraines. All the other stuff they make in this world.
But......for the record. Botox, has given me my life back. I still have some headaches, but I'm not in the agonizing pain that I was in before. It's only been 2 and half weeks. It's costing me, but it's worth it so far. I wish you all the best. I really do.
I used to take fiorinal and 0.5mg of xanax 4 times a day. It worked wonderfully. I could work. The caffeine kept me alert and my migraines stayed away for at least 2-4 weeks. Now my neurologist took me off of them and put me me on 1500mg of depakote. mIt has beeb over 5 months and I have had a migraine almost constantly, and I now am on dissability
Depakote did not help me, and neither did topomax. I was on so many different things. I felt out of it and still suffered everyday with a migraine.
I to had to go on disability after 3 years of not working. I also have back and neck issues, and have to go to pain mangagement every few months.
I am now feeling a little better and hopeful. I tried Botox at a Neurologists, and he said he only gave me 1 dose, and some people need 2. Well, I think I need 2 and I would be a lot better. I still get a few here and ther. But, I'm better. I get headaches, but they are nothing like the migraines. I at least have mostly kept them under control. I can't get my insurance to pay for it. But, I hear that Medicare and Medicaid pay for it. My problem is my husband' s insurance is my primary, so they won't pay. Stupid huh?
Well good luck to you,and if you can afford it and want to try Botox, go to a specialist, or Neurologist, because they know where to inject it in the different parts of the head.
Take care, and hope all works out for you.
Fioricet and Fiorinal are similar drugs. Fiorinal is aspirin/butalbital/caffeine and Fioricet replaces the aspirin with acetaminophen.
New? I don't think so. I started out taking Fiorinal 25+ years ago and when my stomach could no longer take the aspirin, was switched to Fioricet several years later. While it worked for me as a painkiller, it was not really an abortive and many better drugs for stopping the headache and its associated issues have come along in recent years. Additionally, it was very difficult to get due to its addictive nature. Every doctor that scripted it for me insisted on carefully controlling it.
Hope this helps answer your questions.
