Midrin & Stomach pain?

By Denise Garrett Saturday, June 14, 2008

I have been on Midrin about 3 months now. At first, it was great. But after a few times taking it, like everything else, it seems to only work a short time. Other times, I take it, and my migraine is "Poof" gone!

Has anyone taken this and had stomach cramps or pain? I just started having symptoms a month ago. I also have ate a lot of Ibuprofen, so.........who knows.

I would appreciate any feedback. I've been living with this for over 15 years now.

Trying to get disability, but waiting on a hearing date and could take 2 years. Sucks to be me right now.

Thanks.

You got it.  When I've used Midrin, if I use it 2 days in a row, I get terrible stomach cramps.

Remember MOH, Midrin is one of the medications that can cause MOH. After 2 days, if my Migraine is not gone, I know I have a problem and need to move on to other things...

Nancy,

Thanks. I wasn't sure. It's not listed as a side-effect, and I've had horrible stomach pains. But, I don't take the Midrin too often. So,......I'm thinking of getting it checked out, if I'm not better soon.

Stay well!

Hi, If your stomach hurts get off the ibuprofren. That is probably the culprit. I don't know if you know about rebound headaches, but they are awful and it is caused by taking too much pain medicine. I have had Migraines all my life and have been though all the meds and side effects. I now see a neurologist headache specialist . I am trying vitamin B2 and magnesium oxide. Ask you doctor about it. I also don't let my self take more than 2-3 doses of any kind of pain medicine within a week to prevent rebound. The one that works best for me is Midrin.  I am having headaches that are less severe and less frequent. About 3 to 4 a week, but am able to work full time. Keep a headache diary. This is very helpful. Take care of your stomach. No NSAIDS and talk to your doctor about that. I am a GI nurse and know how they can tear up your stomach and cause pain. I hope this helps. Good luck, just remember you are not alone! K

K,

Yes. I have cut way  back on the Ibufrofen, and Midrin seems to help most times. I hate to see what my stomach looks like from taking so many meds. I've not found any preventive yet. Wish I was able to work, but don't see that in the future, unless a miracle  drug comes along to help me 70-100%. I have them almost everyday, and 2-3 days are spent lying down all day. I still have hope and this forum.

Thanks
