Good to know. I was on the Amitriptilyne, and it made me soooo, tired. I couldn't hardly drive to work. I was on it for at least 6 months or more, and still was tired. I think everyone is different, and that's what I'm learning from this website, and others.
but glad you are doing better.
God bless. Stay well.

Depakote saved me
Tammy Delph
Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 08:09 AMMy headaches where unbearable i had them 24 hours a day 7 days a week til i went to a neurologist who put me on depakote er and increased my inderal to 49 mg 3 times a day my headaches are now few and far between thanks to doctor. As for memory loss and slow motor functions my doctor told me that your brain could only take so much pain before it reacted and thats the outcome of the chronic migranes. Hope this helps. Tammy

A comment for you

Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 02:07 PMSo sorry to hear about your situation. I was on Depakote ER for a while. I definately has short term memory loss....stumble to find the right words to finish a sentence! No weight gain though. And, unfortunately, it was not the answer to my migraine issues. I have heard it can work wonderfully for the right person though! Good luck!

Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 04:34 PMSometimes I blame the memory loss on being a mom!! Anyway, how long have you had migraines? I have had them about 20 years. Now I am to the point of a constant daily headache. Do you use Imitrex? I find that can work really well for me, the injection that is. Try to write back, would like to talk to someone who understands what I am going through!

Yes, I have one grown daughter who lives in Indianapolis. I'm in Dayton, Ohio. I have tried Imitrex. Doesn't work for me. Made me more nauseated also. Tried other Triptans, and I had terrible side-effects. Like, tightening in chest and throat, and couldn't hardly breath, as well as nauseated more. So, unfortunately, I can't take those. I've had mine for about 17 years, I started with daily headaches in my teens, and 20's, then at 26 to 27, I'd say, it was always migraines. Also menstrual. I have had a total hysterectomy, and on low doses of patch, and cream.
Just wanting to know if Depakote has worked for many, and it seems it is helping some. Bottom line, There's nothing going to take them away. Just, maybe something will help them be less painful, and last less time.

Sunday, February 01, 2009 at 05:01 PMI understand. I had one when I woke up this morning. I was in bed til 12noon with a wet washcloth on my forehead. I did take my Imitrex shot earlier, it works, but, I still manage to feel like crap, and the headache really does not go away completely. I am going to a new neurologist on Wednesday. Will let you know if he suggests anything new for me! Hope you have a migraine free week!

I hope you find something to help. I do know what you are going through. I'm praying everyday for my disability. I need to pay my bills, and my husband works, but it's getting tough. I have other medical stuff going on also. I need gum surgery, and I had intensive gum cleaning. That was $400 after insurance, and I'll have $800 to pay for the surgery. I paid over $4000 in medical bills out of pocket this year. So...........that's another depressing thing.
I'll pray for you Marilyn tonight. Let me know how you are doing, and what the Doc says.
Take care.
God bless!

Monday, February 02, 2009 at 11:04 AMWill do. I understand the money thing. My husband has a really good job, but, he told me on Saturday that they may have to cut salaries depending on this month's outcome. That stinks....I have 3 kids, 15, 13, 9. My oldest, a daughter is in private school. She is doing extremely well, but, I am already wondering if we will be able to afford tuition next year. The neurologist appt alone on Wednesday will be $400, I do not think insurance will cover any of it. Also, my son needs braces! Oh well, we will all get through this.......I will pray for you too... By the way my youngest son's name is Garrett!! My husband works in Ohio and Indy a lot!! Maybe we can talk about something else besides migraines next time!
