Okay, I'm beginning to think there is no medicine going to help with prevention. Besides, everything I try has side effects so bad, that it's like, I tried migraines for abdominal pain, and dizziness and not sleeping right. I just feel frustrated. Still hoping my new doc can help. he put me on Seroquel, and I didn't realize "nasal congestion" was a side-affect. Well, after 3 days, and nights, not breathing out my nose and taking zyrtec, and nasal spray,....I saw that was a side affect, and then my stomach was so bad, I was doubled over. Any ideas for prevention that has worked for anyone?

Denise, I am 43 and have had migraines since I was a teenager.  I have tried everything out there.  About 6 months ago, my doctor prescribed Relpax.  It's an abortive, and the only thing I have found that stops a migraine when taken immediately when it begins.  I write so you know that you are not alone in your search for a preventative.  Nothing prevents them for me, and I get them weekly.

Windy,

thanks, I feel with this forum, I know I'm not alone. Even though I wish this pain on no one, it's good to know I am not by myself in this battle with migraines.

I was on Relpax. It was an abortive, but I couldn't breath, and had terrible side effects. So, I can't take Triptans, which really is a bummer.

thanks alot.

You are not alone.  I suffer with migraines daily due to various triggers, fibromyalgia, crps, cervical arthritis and herniation and of course hormones.

I have tried different preventives to no avail.

All of the side effects were impossible.

I spent many months with serious dizziness ... thought it was due to my neck because that causes dizziness itself.

Finally went off of the med and the dizziness was back to "normal" dizziness.

So now I just take maxalt as an abortive.

Keep hoping one of these days they will come up with something else.

It's hard since no one really knows just what migraines are ... everything is theory and has changed many times over years.

At least they seem to be getting closer to understanding them.

We can only hope

good luck

Hey there,

Try to keep in mind that side effects may lessen during treatment don't forget. I know you feel awful, but you may want to give this medication a fair trial - which unfortunately could take 8-12 weeks.

Do you have any seasonal allergies? My son does and is having an awful time now with them......

Hang in there sweetie, I know it is tough

Nancy,

Yes, I do have seasonal allergies, and they have been bad. I can't stand to be outside lately. I can't stand the heat either. It's a bummer. Yes, Im trying not to give up. But the stuff was making me really weird, and I woke up feeling like my mind was going crazy. It was weird, and it scared me. So, I stopped it. I'm praying what ever he give me next I can take. He said something about Lamictal. It's got it's pro's and cons from what I reviewed. But, everyone is different. Also, this is medicine for depression and bi-polar which I don't believe I'm bi-polar, it's just depression, and migraines, and anxiety is what I have. God, I hope and pray, I find something to help soon. This forum has been good for me also. It shows me that I'm not alone in this.

thanks,

Denise

I have had migraines for about forty years.  At one point they turned into cluster

migraines (which would last from 4-5 days.)  I went to my doctor when Imitrex first

was on the market.  At that time, I had to give an injection to myself (which worked

in about five minutes.)

Since then the pills came out and I started taking them.  You have to take them at

the first sign of the migraine and they work in about 1 hour or less.  They are

wonderful.  Imitrex also has a nasal spray, which takes a little longer to work.  There are no side effects with the pills or nasal spray.  With the injections, I had to rest for about

a half-hour to an hour.  Felt a little "woozy".
