Has anyone heard that the generic Depakote does not work as well as the regular Depakote? I've heard this and wondering if this is why I'm not getting results. I took regular Depakote for about 6 months and was taken off it, because I switched doctors. I felt it helped a little bit, and that was good for me, because I have migraines about every day.
When I was first on Depakote (probably about 9-10 years ago) I had fantastic results for the first 6-10 months. Then one day I forgot to take it and my migraines came back full force. It was like the previous months of releif had never existed. I ended up in the ER for half the day and my neurologist was baffled. He increased the dose pretty high and I didn't get any releif like I did the first time. I got the weight gain from the pill and an incredible need to eat and that was it.
I haven't heard anything about the generic or brand name, but I just thought I would mention this in case what happened to me is happening to you. Perhaps you had great results and then for whatever reason the switch triggered something to turn off like it did for me. I still don't know why it happened to this day and I have had it happen with other medications. I will get fantastic results that give me great hope but after a certain period of time something happens and my body just won't respond to it anymore, even if there is an increase in doses. You have to love the body and its mysterious ways! <frustrated shrug>

Doctors and the pharmaceutical companies do NOT want to find a cure. They couldn't make money any longer. I have a feeling doctors know what is wrong, but are not saying. Have you ever known a doctor to call in sick? The receptionist answers the phone "Sorry the doctor isn't in today, he is sick?!" Come on! I (after about 30 yrs with migraines, I believe it is diet or weather related). After I was on a strict diet for one month I did not have a single migraine that month, but the diet was difficult to follow. As far as being weather related, one time while on a plane the air pressure in the plane was not working correctly and I had the worst migraine of my life. Just as in weather (the barometric pressure?) during storms changes and I get migraines. Thoughts anyone?
Of course I believe changes in weather can cause migraines. I get them everyday. I've been on everything and I've done numerous diets and only find excessive caffeine and chocolate to be a trigger. However, the weather changes all the time. Example being, in the summer if I go from hot to air conditioner it will bring one on right away! And vice-versa. I don't know if doctors have the cure?? But, there has got to be something to help us. The ones who have not found any medications that work yet.
I went to Urgent care last week. I had taken so enough meds, that there wasn't much else I could take without causing my stomach pain to worsen. The doctor was young and he did the light in my eyes, follow my finger thing. Then he says, "we can give you something for the pain." Well, I said to him, "Torodol, doesn't work anymore for me." So, he gives me a look, and says, "Well, do you just want the phenergan than, because that's all we give." (Smart butt) to say the least. I said, well they gave me Stadol before and that helped. So, he looks at my chart and says oh, okay. It did help, for awhile. The next day, I was a little out of it, and just took motrin. But, I'm very aggravated with doctors at this point. My "specialist" neurologist, told me a few weeks ago, that he didn't have a "magic pill". I wanted to say, "Oh, no Crap", really! Okay, well, I know "crap" was not the word I wanted to use, but you get the point. I just really don't know many doctors on our side!!!

Hi I was on Depakote for a long time. I am not even sure if it was generic or not.
It did not work for me even after a long period of time. I would talk to the pharmacist and see what he/she thinks.
