For trigger foods, I know what all they are. My question is, Does the migraine hit right after you eat something, or can it be hours or the next day. I'm confused. Help!

    I understand your confusion. I wondered the same thing when I was first trying to sort out my food triggers. What I've finally concluded is that I have a few that are strong enough to trigger a migraine all on their own within two to four hours. For me, these are wine, beer, chocolate, and aged cheese. But others are more variable and depend on additional "stackable" factors like my environment. If I'm already vulnerable because it's hot, or I'm in a loud, busy mall with artificial light, then I'd better be really careful about what I eat, because then too much refined flour or sugary foods can do it too. Ultimately though, I'd say for me, if the migraine isn't triggered within four hours, I'd have a hard time pinning it directly on the food.

    This sounds too familiar. Well, about the weather change, lights definitely give me a migraine. I don't think my husband quite gets it, although, he cares. I'm grateful for this forum, and thanks for your feedback. My triggers I've also come to is chocolate, and luncheon meats of some kinds. Still working on this. No releif yet, and Depakote not working for me this time around.

    Hi Denise,

     

    It can take up to 48 hours for a Migraine to occur if a certain food is a trigger. Everyone is different though, for example, if I eat Kraft's Asian Toasted Sesame seed dressing, I will have a Migraine in about 15 minutes.

     

    Have you seen this information?  Managing Food Triggers

    That is a great confusing question. When I talked about it with my previous doctor, she told me if it didn't give me an instant migraine than it isn't a trigger. I thought that it made sense at the time, but then it confused me because there are certain things I eat that are iffy. Hot dogs, chocolate, pork, caffeine, and a few others give me migraines, however it isn't always instantaneous. Good to know it doesn't have to be instantaneous to be a trigger. Otherwise I wouldn't have any triggers and that wouldn't make sense.

    Yes, this still brings me to a very aggravating situation. Because it's hard to "not" eat this whole list of foods within 24 hours. I have pin-pointed one thing which is chocolate. The rest, I'm still working on the list, that I printed off this website that Teri put together for us.  I'm looking at this list, like okay well I eat bananas, but I don't always get a migraine right after, yet sometimes I do, so this could be a trigger. I love bananas! If I can't have some of my fruits, I'm going to cry!CryLOL. Well, it is confusing, but being a person, I think makes you a very strong and persistent person. You have to be to survive this disease. thanks for your input. Have a good day. Mine started out bad, but better at this minute.

    Denise,

     

    Come on, young lady! I know you can do the elimination diet. I've done it three times now for three different doctors.

     

    You eliminate all the potential trigger foods for a week. Then you add them back in, one food per week. Start adding with the ones you miss most.

     

    You like bananas. We all understand that. But, do you like Migraines. Shoot, no! So, if it turns out that bananas are a trigger, don't you think giving them up is a decent price for avoiding the Migraines they would trigger. It's one huge trade-off. Besides which, you could get all the way through it and find that you have few or even no food triggers other than the chocolate you mentioned.

     

    So, come on. I know you can do it. Go, Denise!!

    hot dogs and bologna are 2 of my worst triggers, and sometimes i barely swallow before the pain starts. onions is another bad one!

     

    first thing my doctor told me is read labels, and compare ingrefiant lists. and he's right. i have found several things  i can't have, but other brands i can have of the exact same food.
