I need a support group!!!

By Denise Saturday, November 01, 2008

I am 62 years old and have had migraines for 28 years.  I have had every test in the books and tried all sorts of meds.  When I was working and taking pain killers they just thought I was stupid because I was a slow thinker.  Couldn't tell them how many pain killers I was on as then they would come back with: "She's a druggie."  Right now I am taking percocet and that gives me a life.  My Doc wants me off that stuff and I understand why but I am really scared of having a headache every day.  I wake up with them.

Hi, Denise!

I hear you about needing support. Have you checked out the forum on this site? It's at http://forums.healthcentral.com/discussion/migraine/forums. I think you need to register again there to post, but can use the same email and everything that you did here. I haven't posted there yet, but I've been reading, and it looks like a super place for support.

Hello, and welcome to MyMigraineConnection.com!

Well, I think you've found your support group. We have a wonderful group of caring and compassionate members who are happy to share any information and support they have to help a fellow Migraineur.

It is more important then ever to reduce the number of Migraine attacks we have becasue recent studies have shown that people with a long history and/or frequent attacks are at an increased risk for silent brain damage. This article, Yes, Migraines Can Cause Brain Damage, will give you all the details.

Don't lose hope, there are over 100 medications for Migraine prevention and it probably feels like you have tried them all. After you read: Migraine Preventive Medications - Too Many Options To Give Up! you may feel differently.

Thank you for creating a SharePost. SharePosts are a form of blogging, and there are many things you can do with them. You can share an experience, suggest something that's helped you, use SharePosts as a Migraine and headache journal, and many other things.

We also have a discussion forum that you may want to check out. Especially if you have questions or are looking for information, you may find the interaction on the forum to be quite helpful. To get to the forum, just look for the orange box marked "Manage" and click on the Migraine Forums link. Because our forums are maintained by a third party, you'll need to register for the forum. You can use the same information you used to create your community log-in if you like. If you want to go directly to the forum, you can click HERE.

Along with your personal "My Home" page and the discussion forum, you'll find links to a great deal of helpful information and a spot to sign up for our free newsletter on the main page of our site, http://www.MyMigraineConnection.com.

If you have any questions, please feel free to post them to the forum or send me a message through my profile.

Welcome again,

I just retired in June from teaching.  If they had only known all the meds that I had to take to stay on my feet!  I still don't know how I did it.  Now, I have moved to a new state and am finding that the headaches are even more frequent.  Maybe, it is because the lower level ones are more apparent to me, because I am not distracted.  This is my first day on this website.  Like you, I am hoping to get a support group.  I also am hoping that someone will mention something that I have not tried.  My quality of life is a constant struggle.
