I've had headaches since I was 13, that was in 1952! My mom had them, her sister and my older sister had them. I was told by a doctor that they menstrual headaches/sinus headaches. I accepted that and lived with it until menopause whe they were somehwt alleviated... taking just about every painkiller on the market, prescriptions and OTC. The ones that did work only did so for a period of time...then on to the next drug.

Finally about 4 years ago I went to a neurologist because I was losing my short term memory. He wasn't  concerned about that but WAS concerned about my headaches. He suspected chronic migraines, ordered a CT brain scan...everything was good; then an MRI ...again clean. Prescribed 10 mg Nortriptyline, a drug an anti depressant, but is also used for chronic pain. Over a period of several months he increased it to 50mg. He also prescribed Fiorcet for when I do get a headache, usually from stress. I take one tablet and it takes the edge off. In any case, I'm not totally free of migraines, but they are 25% of what they used to be.
