I have been suffering with migraines for over 34 years and lately they are getting more frequent. I wake up with a migraine almost every morning and it lasts for hours. When I get one while I am awake my meds do a good job of stopping them but when I wake with one I'm usually in bed til noon. Is there anyone with any advice for me? I was seeing a neurologist for a few years but he just wanted me to take more and more meds and I was a walking zombie for most of the day.
Please, any suggestions or ideas will be much appreciated.

Hello, and welcome to MyMigraineConnection!
In many cases, waking with Migraines is an indication of a problem with sleep. Too much, too little, interrupted, and poor quality sleep can all be Migraine triggers. Talking to your doctor about your sleep patterns is a good idea.
With your Migraine pattern changing, you do need to see your doctor to be sure there's no other underlying problem. If you need to try preventives, there are now over 100 medications that can be used for Migraine prevention. There's no need to feel like a "walking zombie."

Welcome again,

Teri, thanks so much for replying and welcoming me to MyMigraineConnection. I did see my doctor today and he prescribed depakote as a preventive. He also told me that I have new onset Type II diabetes and this might be a factor in the migraine pattern change.
I am very thankful for this site and the helpful inspirational support I have been reading.
Linda
Linda,
You're quite welcome!
Glad you saw your doctor, but sorry about the diabetes. Ugh. I know that's not fun since I was diagnosed about 15 years ago. Let me know if you need anything, please.
