I am over 50 and have had very few headaches in my lifetime( caused a lot I am sure). About 10 months ago I was awakened with horrific eye pain in my right eye. I could not stay in bed. I had profuse watering and intense pain. At first, they occured about once a month. I have had three migraines in the last 12 days. I went to my Primary Care who said it sounded like 'cluster headaches', then the opthamologist said my eyes were healthy and it could be 'occipital migraine'..my neurologist said 'migraine'. He put me on topomax. I just started this week@ 25 mg...I travel 99% for my job...I don't know if it's related but, the migraines seemed to have started after I was rear ended for the 5th time in 6 years and had a good case of cervial strain...again. I have tried to track things that might tigger the onset. My medicines and diet hasn't changed in several years. I am totally at the 'beginner's stage'...looking for things to help cope, especially when I am on the road.

in six years? Goodness, that's not good. Is your neck a mess? That could certainly trigger a Migraine attack. I know this from personal experience. Cervial strain won't cause a Migraine attack, but the muscle strain, tearing, aching etc. can trigger one. Here is some more information on Migraine Triggers.
Good news about your eyes being ok. The International Headache Society's International Classification of Headache Disorders, 2nd Edition lists Retinal Migraine, not ocular, optical or ophthalmic Migraine. It gets a bit confusing this information will clear it up. Ocular, Optical, and Ophthalmic Migraines.
I hope this information helps.
