MAV Advice

By SophieRue Friday, July 18, 2008

Hello,

I'm a 23 year old female and here's my story in brief. November 06 I had BPPV, which was cured with Epley's Maneuver. June 07 I had an ear infection, treated with antibiotics. After that I started getting dizzy again- mainly vertigo, tinnitus, naseusa. 6 months in I started getting numbness & tingling in my left cheek and around my jaw. This has increased and I have it pretty much everyday now, varying in degree.

I've been back and forth to the ENT during the last year. Had balance tests which were fine, completed VRT. At my last appointment she suspected it's all migraine related (I had read up on Migraine Associated Vertigo - so was expecting this as a possibility). I've been on 50mg of Amytriptyline for the last 2 months and I've seen no improvement.

I have migraines/headaches every other day, sometimes everyday. And the area around my jaw & cheek either feels numbs and tingling or has a constant dull ache. Does this still sound like Migraines?

I'm concerned because it's been over a year and I've not been referred for a MRI?

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Hello, and welcome to MyMigraineConnection.com!

We are unable to tell whether or not the "dull ache" you are experiencing is a Migraine, since we aren't medical professionals. You wouldn't want to be diagnosed online anyway. What we can do is provide you with information about Migraine disease and give you lots of support. How does that sound?

Seeing as your pain has been going on for quite some time, the best thing you can do is see the expert in this area. That would be a Migraine specialist. These doctors devote their entire practice to treating patients with Migraines and headache disorders and are on the cutting edge of treatments and diagnosis. We have a list of patient recommended specialists you can see HERE.  Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? is a wonderful article.
