Hi. I am a 31 year old mother of a 3 year old and have been suffering from migraines since age 15. I am starting to suffer more frequently lately and so far I haven't found a doctor that is very knowledgable on the subject. I've been given different medications that either offer little to bo relief or have nasty side affects. I need some guidance! I don't know where to go from here and this illness is beginning to affect every aspect of my life. My parenting, my job, inability to go out and enjoy life. I feel like a prisoner in my own body

So sorry to hear about your situation. I have BTDT also, migs since age 12, have 2 kids age 17 and 6, am now 47.
I take Relpax when I get an aura or begin to feel the mig "tickling" one side of my head. My neuro is putting me on Lexapro as soon as I can get them delivered cheaply from Canada--hopefully this week. I used Lexapro 2 years ago for about 6 months and it significantly reduced my migs. The neuro seems to think I may have low serotonin, so the Lexapro helps increase that. I'm not depressed, but I do get rather cranky when I get migs often! I went off it because it dampened my libido so much. But the migs are back and I need to work on controlling them better.
The Relpax is a real blessing. Only side effects are achy neck and shoulders and tiredness, but that beats a mig hands-down.
I have only tried those meds above and Imitrex, which stopped working for me after about 10 uses. It's a bummer, because Imitrex is generic and a lot cheaper than Relpax now.

Thank you so much for the response! I have an appt Thursday with a doctor that has a good reputation for being very thorough and I'm hopeful that he will offer me some relief! I am taking prozac right now. I'm guessing it has the same affect as the lexapro being that they are both SSRI's. I'll have to ask. I will also mention the Relpax and see if he will let me give it a try. Thanks again and good luck to you as well!
