The Great Rebound

Who needs another day of this?
Consider it forced rest
Stay home
Bury yourself under the blankets
Block out the light, block out the sound.
You know the drill by now.

Take a triptan pill,
pray a rebound isn't slinking behind the curtains
ready to pounce with no warning.

Ah, just a brief hour later, my Pain is gone;
amazing how normal I feel,
Back to normalcy,
just like real people.

But wait! There's more!

I'd forgotten about the Rebound Ripper,
Who makes his appearance
the next day, or the day after, or the day after that.

Emerging behind black curtains,
He gleefully kicks up his heels and dances down the counter,

Just like "Space Ball's" Alien singing "Hello my baby, hello my baby"
Cackling and strutting:

"Thought you got away this time, didn't you? Not so, my little pretty..."
And he gets me, and my little dog too.

Thus, the eternal question arises:

To pill or not to pill
That is the question.
Rather 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of misfortune...
by suffering through horrid pain with no meds
or, choosing what you think is the lesser of two evils:
taking another pill and giving you one more respite
from another day in hell.

Sneaky pill, lying pill.
You'll help for a while,
yet when my back is turned in a day or two,
The pain you promised to kill has not died;
but has instead resurrected as a tsunami beast inside my head.
Welcome to the most curious show of all:
Saint Triptan and his Magic Tricks.
