New to forum

By amber Tuesday, February 03, 2009
Hello, this is my first post. I have been suffering with migraines for 8 years. I was just recently diagnosed in Sept. with an acoustic neuroma, while in the hospital for treatment of migraines. I went to the hospital for the DHE IV therapy. Which was absolutely wonderful. I truely broke my migraine cycle. I have been on every kind of migraine medicine known to man and the only thing that actually prevented my migraines was Topromax. Unfortunately the Topromax made me totally stupid and the side effects have been horrible. I literally have not engergy to do anything or have desire to do anything. My world has completely changed, when I am on preventive medication, I have not engergy. When I am off the medication, I have a continually migraine, which that make me not want to do anything, I am eratible, angry, I feel hopeless. I am currently trying Zonisamide and it is not working. Has anyone else had luck with the Zonisamide? What other medication that others tried that have maybe given them a new lease on life? Amber

Hello, and welcome to MyMigraineConnection.com!

I'm glad you found us. If I could take care of a bit of business first, then we'll get on to the good stuff. I wanted to let you know that this is the SharePosting area where you can share with us. We have another section of the site where the forum is, and I have information on how to get there below.

I don't know anything about acoustic neuorma but glad you had it taken care of. That must of been a bit scary.

It may feel like you have tried every Migraine prevention medication known to man, but you know, that really isn't possible! Honestly. There are over 100 drugs that can be used to treat Migraine disease, and if you add up the different combinations, the number increases tremendously. This article has lots of information for you:  Migraine Preventive Medications - Too Many Options To Give Up!

I take Zonegran with some success although I think my dose needs adjusting. It can  take up to three months before we see a reduction in Migraine frequency and severity when we start a new drug, as frustrating as that is.

How about seeing a Migraine specialist? This doctor is an expert treating patients with Migraines and headache disorders only. We have a list of patient recommneded specialists you can see HERE.

Thank you for creating a SharePost. SharePosts are a form of blogging, and there are many things you can do with them. You can share an experience, suggest something that's helped you, use SharePosts as a Migraine and headache journal, and many other things.

We also have a discussion forum that you may want to check out. Especially if you have questions or are looking for information, you may find the interaction on the forum to be quite helpful. To get to the forum, just look for the orange box marked "Manage" and click on the Migraine Forums link. Because our forums are maintained by a third party, you'll need to register for the forum. You can use the same information you used to create your community log-in if you like. If you want to go directly to the forum, you can click HERE.

Along with your personal "My Home" page and the discussion forum, you'll find links to a great deal of helpful information and a spot to sign up for our free newsletter on the main page of our site, http://www.MyMigraineConnection.com.

If you have any questions, please feel free to post them to the forum or send me a message through my profile.

Welcome again,

Amber, we must be twins. Your situation sounds identical to mine. My Dr. started me on Zonisamide yesterday so I can't tell you anything yet, but thae darn Topamax. I just found out yesterday that it was causing my memory loss and loss of words. I have been on the verge of ending it all. I have not been pain free for some time now. So i'm willing to try anything. The DHE works but they just come right back.

Good luck
