Always feel safe to get a second opinion if your gut tells you you should

By JKM Sunday, October 24, 2010

I am in the process of applying for my long term disability, through where I used to work before I was terminated after my short term disability ran out and through Social Security.  Now going through the appeals process.   I have a wonderful neurologist, we are in the process of trialing different medications as preventatives, as I have a cardiac history and can't use the tryptans r/t this.   I also have labile hypertension, which is beginng to affect my renal function, I had alsway felt that I had probelms with depression, and had went to a physiciatrist and saw him for 35 minutes initially and he stated I had a major depressive disorder, and sent me to a local therapist(a social worker specializing in therapy-it is a Christian based organization) I think that is the only thing he did right.    He just looked at what meds I am taking for my blood pressure and for my migraine prevention and said they all cause headaches and he didn't know what I expected him to do.

So needless to say, I asked my family physician to find me another doctor.

My family MD found me a wonderful physiciatrist, she spent over 4 hours with me on my initial visit.   She made the diagnosis of Bipolar with hypomania, panic disorder with agoraphobia, and some slight OCD.   She has since started me on a mood stabilizer, and is watching me very close related to weight gain, because I am a full figured woman, and at risk for Diabetes type 2.   So far only a slight difference in my mood have I noticed, but she has called to check on me, encouraged me to try to get out of the house if even for a half hour a day, Your doctors are half the battle with your migraines and any other secondary or anyother condition you may have.   Just remember don't give up to the darkness and fear.  God has blessed me with all of you here and with good, caring physicians in my life, and I am finally learning to take it one day at a time.
