There can be Hope

By mzd2007 Wednesday, October 31, 2007

I have made only two posts.  One was to introduce myself; the other to gripe.  My headache specialist (neurologist) and I have had a very tough year together.  For me it has been dealing with the increasing intensity of my migraines; for him it has been coming up with combinations of medications to handle the dramatically decline of my disease.

Last month he hospitalized me for a month in what he called the  most intensive treament for what had became an intractible migraine.  As I write this now, I still have the same migraine which began in July.

I am calling this an email of hope for this reason, my headache specialist is now fully treating me for pain.  I am meeting with him once a week.  For the first time this year, I can truthfully say I have gone for a full week without pain and been at my full energy level.  For those of you who are not able to say this yet, I want you to know I think you always.  I have become an advocate in my own way to help people understand what we go through, knowing my week of joy can be taken away in an instant.  Also, please remember, if your doctor feels they have failed you, remind them that your disease may have just outgrown their treatments.
