Was that a glint of light? I blink three times.
Sinking feeling in my gut, I panic.
Not NOW! I'm driving. I blink twice.
I try to focus on the street signs.
Can I read them? Is that an F or a P?
Is that spot supposed to be there? I blink again.
Pretty purple lightening bolts dance before my eyes.
Agony will start in twenty minutes, I will wish I were dead.
Pulling over I search my bag for my phone and pills.
Say hello my little friend. Car-jacked again.

What a striking piece!
Spot on! My niece carries her little "migraine rescue kit" everywhere
she goes, and this is exactly what she lives through daily. Bless your heart.
I'm so sorry.
I'm thankful that there are so many talented people willing to share in such
honest and meaningful ways among the stricken. Although it would be nice if
their experiences in life did not merit their having to share this painful bond.
It helps everyone realize they are not alone in the struggle.
This was VERY well written.

Ohhh Roey, can I EVER relate to that! I know the terror that is stricken into a heart by the jagged rainbows and blindness that usher in my migraines! I've been driving with my kids in the car when it's happened, brought on by a flash of white light from the reflection of another car's windshield. One day, when that happened, praying to GOD and driving very carefully, I got to the McDonald's where we were going, ordered our food, and promptly slapped a hot hamburger on my head (that's my curative, heat). I tried to do it without drawing attention of my little girl in the front seat, but she said "mommy, why are you putting your hamburger on your head?". Ouch, that was a tough one to answer. Thank you, again, for your good work capturing the feeling of being car-jacked by the monster migraine. My regards to you.

To any and all of you fellow-sufferers:
they can send a man to the moon and things to mars..but..why can't they find a totally cure for migraines?????....
I too do everything to prevent them (and mine are mostly food-related and I avoid about 40 items and liquid) but.....anyway, I found something that works for me and not much else does..as I can't take any abortive types like relpax, imitrex, maxalt as they all trip my heart so...I started at the immediate onset ..to take ADVIL MIGRAINE..and it's a liquid get type gold-colored I think.....and I can honestly say, it works for me..85 per cent of the time...I am sitll shot for the remainder of any day to do anything big time, even driving a car but..at least I can sit in the quiet of my apt., let it take a hold of the "demon"... and not be freaked out by it's wrath and aftermath...it levels me out..all the way around....
so..group..try it next time you think you'll lose your mind...for me..it helped tremendously!

Thank you Linda, I'm glad you liked the piece. I find writing an outlet for the frustration of chronic pain (I also have FMS, CFS, MCS etc etc) and it turns it into something creative instead.
Rachel, I'm still laughing about you putting a hot burger on your head, now that's creative!!!!
Thanks Marci for your comments about medication, yes sometimes the simple remedies can be very effective. My niece swears by an an old cherokee remedy of putting your feet in hot water and putting a cold compress on the back of your neck, or is that the other way around?
