Migraine linked to heart attacks

By Pelvic Woman Wednesday, February 17, 2010

I have suffered for years with migraines, and have found that when there is low atmospheric pressure (usually before a heavy storm) it triggers it. For years doctors have told me the usual, no chocolate, no cheese, no alcohol but even staying off these I still get the headache, I don't get the flashing lights so much now, its more of a black spot and blurred vision by day 2 the acid has built up so much in my stomach that I have to vomit. After vomitting I do feel a little better. But its Hell.

Something was on the UK TV a few days ago that migraine sufferers are prone to stroke, diabetes and heart failure. I am worried as my grandmother had several strokes and both grandparents and mother had heart attacks which killed all of them also mum had diabetes.

I have been for checks and there is nothing wrong with my heart nor do I show signs of diabetes. Its just the migraines. If anyone has a non medicated cure I would be grateful to hear from you.

Hello, and welcome to MyMigraineConnection.com!

I wish there was a "cure" for Migraine disease, but at this moment in time there is not. Migraine is a genetic neurological disease thought to be caused by overactive neurons in our brains and genetics. Continue reading Migraine - What Is It? for more information.

A new study was just released from the Journal of the American Academy of Neurology adding to previous findings that Migraine disease is tied to increased risk of cardiovascular disease.

Hi,

in reply to your post about the risk of heart attack or stroke; yes to both. Pain bad enough to throw the heart out of regulation can trigger a heart attack. So, dont let the migraine get ahead of your control over it. I have learnede to take T3 at the hint of pain, if I feel the throb, the FIRST throb, I take a friggin pill. It is just not worth it to try and "fight" it. There is no such thing.

And, as far as strokes, you MUST find out what type of migraine you have. I have hemiplegic migraine, so I actually DID have a mini stroke because I did not recognize nor was diagnosed appropriately with the right type of migraine, My docotr just thought I was a "normal" migraine sufferer and started me on Imitrex, which actually made my type of migaine worse. So, you gotta find out what you have so you can fight it.

 Ok, hope that helps,

m

Thank you for your comment. I never realised there were different types of migraines. Thank you again. I certainly will be checking this out.

Thank you for your replies. I certainly will check this out. I was prescribed Tylenol yesterday, but it has made me vomit today.
