I have been suffering with migraines since 2001 or earlier. I probably should say that i have been treated then. I would always have periods of good months and bad months my migraines were always brought on by my stress. It wasn't until April of this year that a different kind of migraine hit me ...

    Hello, and welcome to MyMigraineConnection.com!

Yes, there are plenty of us who suffer like you, unfortunately. Welcome! According to the International Headache Society's International Classification of Headache Disorders, 2nd Edition, atypical Migraine is not a diagnosis. There are typical aura with Migraine, typical aura with non-Migraine and typical aura without Migraine to name just a few different types of Migraines. What you may have been experiencing was Migraine without aura, but we are not medical professionals so cannot diagnose you. Eye pain can be a symptom of Migraine without aura. For more info this article talks about the 4 phases of a Migraine attack and their symptoms: http://www.healthcentral.com/migraine/understanding-migraine-29375-5.html

Contacting your doctor when there is a change in  your symptoms is always the right thing to do, great job!

As Nancy said, "atypical Migraine" isn't a diagnosis. "Atypical" is quite often used as a descriptive term to mean that your Migraines are presenting symptoms that make them hard to classify or vary somewhat from the symptoms usually associated with the type of Migraine you have.

With that much eye pain, did your doctor suggest that you see an ophthalmologist to be sure that all of this IS Migraine?
