Just figured I'd share a little help on coping.(hopefully it will anyway) I'm always going online to find someone who knows what I'm going through and I always end up talking about the pain. This time I want to give a little back and hopefully help someone else cope. I've had these things for 13 years now. I have finally begun to treat it as it should be treated rather than overlooking it and trying to push through my busy days. One thought that gets me through is that it will pass. If only for a week. There will be an end to it and I'll have my blissful headache free break. So when I get them I take it easier on myself. Cut corners and rest as much as I can. Not try to continue on doing everything so perfect. After all would I do all these chores if I had the flu....I think not....well I'm a mom so maybe a little but when I have a migraine I put my priority on taking care of that and just doing the basic necessities of life. I focus on relaxing every muscle in my body, breathing away the pain and meditating. I think on the headache free days ahead when my mind starts to focus too much on the pain. Its hard but I just keep pulling myself back. I figure if I can make it through child birth I can make it through this. It want last forever. I've kept headache diaries, go to a nuerologist, and tried many different things, read many books on migraines and now I know enough to manage them way better than I used to. One mistake I made was not to notice the first signs of a migraine and not take my meds. right then and there. That has been the biggest help for me. To take my meds before the real pain begins. To notice the subtle and not so subtle signs that I will have one. It has brought my life back to more normal. I say more normal because I'm still trying to figure out how to get over the fatique that comes along with it and the meds. Recently I have begun to feel achy all over afterwards. My migraines and its symptoms seem to change over time but rather than feel upset and hopeless I've begun to see it as my disease that I manage and like putting all the puzzle pieces together I will figure this part out too. Two things that help me the most is taking those meds as soon as the "pre-migraine" symptoms begin or at the first sign of pain, however slight, and telling myself this will pass. I appreciate my "healthy feeling" days so much now. I don't take it for granted. Its such sweet relief at the end of the "migraine" tunnel. It has also made me more compassionate for those who are in constant pain. At least I have some pain free moments to. Apparently God thought I was pretty strong because if he don't give you more than you can handle he must have thought I was one tough cookie, lol. Truthfully though had I not gone through this I would never understand the pain that some people have to go through quite so well. It will suit me well in my future career choices but for now I'm still figuring out how to tame the beast (my migraines that is) but things are improving. With every bit of knowledge I can scrape up about migraines I am getting so much better at managing them. I wish the same for everyone else.
