Exercise And Migraine
jay
Thursday, February 19, 2009 at 10:24 AMI have migraine and i try to exercise every day that i wake up migraine free. Unfortunately, that is never more than a week or ten days in a month.Exercise triggers migraine for me too,but then i realised that if i don't overexert and overtire myself ,it doesn't bring on an attack. So,the trick is to exercise in moderation and not fatigue oneself out to complete exhaustion. When you are trying to lose weight, its difficult to curb your enthusiasm and stop your work out but i've learnt from experience that its better to know your body's limitations and adjust to that. Also,i've found that strength training tends to bring on attacks more than cardio.Hope this helps! -
Exercise and Migraines

Thursday, February 19, 2009 at 10:03 PMI'm with Jay, you can exercise with migraines but you have to know your limits. I have lost 25 pounds in the last 7 months trying to balance my life and healthy eating hoping to help with the migraines. A nice side effect was the weight loss but I also needed to exercise. For me the exercise was walking, about 30 minutes each day when I can. I recently tried to add a lap of running and found it triggered a migraine...so that is MY limit. No running just keep it to walking when I am migraine free.

help with fear of headache reoccurance

Sunday, April 05, 2009 at 02:34 PMI regularly exercise and recently started a new exercise class ("boot camp") and the 1st 2 classes have produced horrendous migraines - the 2nd class i was so hopeful that the prior week was a weird one time thing but by the end of the 2nd class I knew I was in for a rough night, ended up going to urgent care facility the following morning and getting a shot of toradol (something i'd never had to do before). I saw my internist Friday and he prescribed maxalt and said to bring w/me to next class and to take at 1st sign of headache should it come back. I'm anxious to go back to the class but am struggling with the fear and dread of another headache...i'm truly a very optimistic person and don't tend to let fear take over but the severity of the last headache is in the forefront of my mind...any suggestions or just "go for it" and hope for the best?

I am an avid runner, and also get migraines. When I was in college, the running didn't typically trigger a migraine, but this gradually changed. Half-way through graduate school, I was sure to get a migraine within an hour of exercising. My neurologist prescribed indomethacin. I take it 1/2 hour before I run. Unless I really overdo it, I rarely get exercise-triggered migraines. I am so happy that I can run again! (I've been taking indomethacin for almost 2 years now, and have ran many races!)
