Hello every one,

I'm 50 yrs young married for 24 yrs and have 5 children all left the nest now except one, our 14 yr old son. I teach preschool K-4 and suffer with weather related migraines! "Yes" I can tell you when it's goig to rain or snow 1-week to 2-days before it happens "I feel like a weather man"

Example: on 1/5(Thursday) @ 12:00 I got the the fastest worsted migraine ever it lasted through the weekend! I went to the ER on Friday 4:00 because I maxed out my Treximet (which barley covered the migraine) I was in full blown pain!!! On 1/12 Thursday @ 11:00am started to snow we received 6inches through the night. This is my life! I basicly shut down, I miss work, pretty hard working with kids yelling, screaming, bright lights, My husband rubs my neck, shoulders, face, until the meds. kick in.

I am currently under regular doctor's care in the market for a good nerologist. I very much look forward to talking to anyone who shares the same experiences as I do and find some hope, solutions, friendship and laughter.Cool

I am 53 years old and have had migraines for 15 years.  They started sometime after I had surgery for a ruptured disk in my neck.  It took me forever to figure out every time it rained, I seemed to have a headache.  I went to the Doctor for years thinking I was having sinus infections and was mistreated.  I've taken even known drug for migraines and nothing seems to work except botox injections.  I get them once every 3 months, and they only work for 2 months.  Instead of having 13-28 headaches a month - I am now having 6 - 15 headaches a month.  I'm still miserable, but at least not suicidal.  I hate to say it, but sometimes I wish the weather would never change.  If it snows or any kind of front comes in, I am dead meat.  I have found out through my Neurologist that baclofen (muscle relaxer) - if I take it prior to the front coming in, sometimes I can fight off the headache if I catch it early enough.  The problem is, if you take the meds too much, your body gets used to them and they quit working.

Thanks for your replyLaughing I too thought they were sinus, I think I've had migraines since I was a teenager maybe as a child. I now know that there is a pattern and have know it for quite sometime changes in the air pressure "low pressure system" once it gets here I'm fine, except for the muscles in my neck and shoulders are all knotted up from the headache. When I explain this to the Doctors they think I'm wacked, but I can predict the weather even if the weatherman is wrong! I live in Wisconsin, I also have migraine season October-March is my big heavy season if a lot of snow or rain. I do get them in the summer if it's very warm out and a cold front is coming. I'm currently taking treximet which only last 8hrs. and can only have no more than 2 pills in a 24hr peroid so that sucks because if the migraine lasts for 2-3 days than I end up in the ER. They also have me on Topiramate 25mg one in the morning and one at night starting. as a preventitive not sure if it's working. I think the only thing that will work is to MOVE to where there is less pressure systems. I can't take this head pain anymore too hard to live and enjoy life this way there's got to be and answer out there! besides drugs!

I will look into the botox injections

I was once on muscle relaxer as a preventitive but it did not work and made me drowzey in the morning.

I wish you well & migraine free daysWink

weather is also the only trigger I have...I live in Georgia so we don't have much problem with snow but lot's of rain! I always get a migraine 1-2 days before the front comes in.  I work with one other person that does the same thing and we both walk around wincing in pain...

Yes! 1-3 days before. once it arrives I'm fine. I live in Wisconsin and I'm ready to try a "test" Take a leave of absence from work for one month and stay in Phoenix AZ. at my parent's place and see how many migraines I get! My test will have to take place during Wisconsin winter season "That's my big migraine season" I'm just so tired of the PAIN!!!! and DRUGS that don't always work.

It's some comfort to know I'm not aloneCry

May you have many migraine free days!Wink

Hello, and welcome to HealthCentral's Migraine Community!

We are so glad you've found our site and glad to hear you are working with a good gp. May I suggest looking for a Migraine specialist rather than a neurologist? Here's why; neurologists may be fine doctors, but have a hard time being experts in one area. This is because they treat so many conditions like MS, epilepsy and stroke. A Migraine specialist is just that, an expert who treats one condition - ours - Migraines and headache disorders. When you get a chance, take a look at article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.

Thank you for creating a SharePost. SharePosts are a form of blogging, and there are many things you can do with them. You can share an experience, suggest something that's helped you, use SharePosts as a Migraine and headache journal, and many other things.

We also have a discussion forum that you may want to check out. Especially if you have questions or are looking for information, you may find the interaction on the forum to be quite helpful. To get to the forum, just look for the orange box marked "Manage" and click on the Migraine Forums link. Because our forums are maintained by a third party, you'll need to register for the forum. You can use the same information you used to create your community log-in if you like. If you want to go directly to the forum, you can click HERE.

Along with your personal "My Home" page and the discussion forum, you'll find links to a great deal of helpful information on the main page of our site, http://www.MyMigraineConnection.com. Under the Find, Manage, and Connect tabs at the top of each page, you'll find a wealth of information - educational articles, tips, quizzes, workbooks, support and advocacy information, and more.

Do you have questions about Migraine? There are three ways to get answers - through our Ask the Clinician column, in our community Question and Answer Section, or through our forum.  Just go to our Migraine Answers page HERE.

Hi Nancy,

What a great web site! I just want to let you know that I clicked on the patient recommended migraine & headache specialists site list and in Wisconsin Dr. Purath ( The Headache Clinic ) is right in my back own back yard! I have an appointment for March. I just had an MRI and the tech told me Dr. purath moved her practice closer to the airport due to patients flying in to see her. So I am VERY excited! I will keep you updated on how it all goes!

I too am a barometer.  I occasionally go all the way down with a migraine and must seek a shot.  However, I cannot take any migraine meds as my unfortunate brain appears now to develop migraines to get the meds as I also suffered from hormone related and flourescent bulb related migraines.

I now seek massages and do yoga migraine related moves.  They help some.  I also find that I can do activities that require me to truly focus for some period of time, although I sometimes step away and discover the migraine is worse.

I use cold packs also.  Some relief but not relief that generally is long-lasting.

Again, I would seek a massage therapist that specializes in migraine pain relief.

To allow one to remain at work, I use aroma therapy with mint and eucalyptus scents contained in oils I rub into pulse centers, not just temples.  I can often make it through work before collapsing.  Note, sound and light still cause great pain.  I would also make sure the lights in the classroom are not the old flourescent lights and if so, bring in something different like a halogen.
