Friday, July 04, 2008 at 07:23 PMHi Eva,
I'm glad you came by! We've missed you around here!
I sure hope the Sansert helps your migraines! I'm sure you'll be very careful while taking it...extra blood work will certainly help to reassure you that your health is OK.
Please take care of yourself! Check back again when you have a moment!

sansert - important question
Anonymous
Wednesday, February 04, 2009 at 09:00 PMHi,
I just found your blog doing a search on Sansert. I live in Texas, so I was supposed to get mine from Canada, but they were out, so I'm ending up getting it from England. I have not yet received it in the mail.
My doc was a little reluctant to prescribe it to me, I had found out about it through a friend who used it many years ago for clusters (with success).
He finally wrote the prescription, and I sent it to the pharmacy in Canada who is importing it for me. However, NO ONE told me I could not use the abortive medications if I do get a migraine. That would suck!!! Does it say this in the prescribing information that comes with the med? Did your doctor tell you? What happens if you do take Imitrex or one of the triptans?
Also, how often are you supposed to get blood tested? They didn't tell me that either. I knew you were not supposed to be on it for more than 6 mos. Please keep me/us posted on your progress with this drug. This is sort of a last resort for me, as I'm sure it is for many, esp. people living in the US who have to jump thru hoops to get this medication.

Sunday, February 08, 2009 at 12:11 PMHi,
I am already off the Sansert. It caused a veru high heart rate in me, up to 150 bpm at rest. I was told to go off it by my doctor but nobody told me how "fun" it would be. In my opinion they should have prepared me for goiong off it, it would save me from going to the ER many times with very scary symptoms.
It took me about 3 months to feel normaln again, my heart rate is much better now. But however scary, I think it still helped me a lot.
This medication constricts blood vessels, and so do the triptans, so it is quite dangeroud to take them together. A pharmacy should not give you both prescriptions, they should not give you a triptan (or migranal I think) when they are giving you sansert. So ask your doctor as this is very important.
I do not think you need a blood tests during the treatment. I needed an echo cardiogram to check my heart before I started it, and also after I was done.

Monday, October 19, 2009 at 03:49 PMHi,
please do talk to your doctor. Everybody told me not to use triptans, my family doctor, my specialist, my pharmacist. You also can't use Migranal or any ergotamines. I think they both constrict blood vessels and you just don't want to have too much of that :)
But do talk to your doctor, so you are both on the same page as far as the sansert goes, will all the tests and so on. He is the one that should know these things.
Good luck

Oh Eva! I am so happy you posted! I have been thinking about you and hoping you are doing well!!!!
Teri and I just got back from Boston and we ran into a doctor there that says he still uses Sansert. His feeling on it was that he got a much worse rap then it really has. He said when he has patients on it, he checks blood work and things of that nature very very frequently to make sure there are no issues with anything.
Oh honey it's so good to hear from you!!!! I can't wait to see your name popping up in the forum again!!!!!
