Nerves dance and sparkle,
Traveling the wires like an electric spark.
3 Na+ out, 2 K+ in
3 Na+ out, 2 K+ in
3 Na+ out, 2 K+ in
Over and over again
With rhythms of trains,
Oceans waves,
A waltz.
Each pulse speaks loudly.
It makes itself known.
Burning the muscles, the fibers, the skin.
Turning the mind inside out.
Building a black hole that not even thought can escape.
It makes words come more slowly.
Freezes muscles in place.
Hypnotizes in dizzy sleepiness.
Tracing the pathways it knows so well.
The storm reaches a crescendo.
And then…
When the rain and thunder seem to pound the hardest,
The lightning begins to fade.
All that is left is the burned pathways,
Healing,
Waiting for the next storm to begin.
