Don't add clots to your headaches!

I know what we talk about here is headaches. But, after my recent hospitalization I want to give you all tips on not ending up where I was.Blood clots form in veins. Typically they begin in your legs. You may have heard of Deep Vein Thrombosis or DVT. These clots can break free and move. If they move, they have a high chance of landing in your lungs. At this point they become known as a Pulmonary Embolism or...

Not just a stupid body ~ A strong body!

I have had migraines since 1994. When I couple that with anxiety, depression, allergies, IBS, myofascial pain, menstrual issues, and a cruddy immune system I often have felt that my brain is trapped inside an unreasonable, irritating body. I have never felt terribly healthy or strong. Swallowing a handful or so of pills a day makes me self conscious as do some of the effects of the aforementioned list.

On July 18 that...

Wouldn't it be nice...

If our bodies came with instruction manuals
        troubleshooting instructions included
If we could go a month without missing work
or seeing the doctor where receptionists recognize our faces
If many prescription bottles could go down to one
If pain were not confused with drug seeking
If the medications that help wouldn't cause side effects that...

Is Enough

Headache
Searing quiet
Pounding, sparkling, taking.
Engulfs minds in tiresome pain.
Enough

Democracy

A corner of my head
where I can have some peace.
No more blinding light
          No more rings and bands
                     No more quiet walls

Metamorphosis

In my body.
A will of my own.
I want...
I wait...
when I am tired,
when I hurt,
when I feel.
Does the pain make me alive?
With pain am I alive?
Cocooned.
Waiting, chrysali
for my my emergence.

These are the days of the electric frog machine.

Not tonight, I've got a headache

This is a phrase joken about in our culture. Little do so many know about what headaches can do to the intimate portions of a couple's relationship. Tonight, while trying to cuddle I began to feel that pinching pain in my neck and shoulder. Nothing would get rid of it. I shifted posture several times to no avail. Kisses are nice, but, when there is pain sometimes affection is irritating and the pain difficult to...

fall - more pain at this time of year

Fal hits. It is my favorite time of year. The weather is cool and crisp, harvest activities such as bon fires and corn mazes abound, the colors are beautiful... I never feel well. Allergies kick in I guess. I get colds, my stomach hurts, and my headaches quadruple. This season was the worst for headaches in years. So, I started on my first beta blocker, Topral I think it was. It helped but had side...
