The storm that has hit the mid-section of our country the past week has made its way to the east coast. The forcast had been full of "severe weather warnings", but as usual we got mostly rain while DC got quite a nice smathering of snow. I stayed all snuggled in the house in my favorite stuffed rocker with my heated throw the the kids got me for my birthday and a nice lavender-scented candle filling the air with its comforting aroma. All afternoon I could hear the rain as it would blow against my window... sometimes lightly and then the more prickly sound of sleet. Off and on, back and forth this little dance continued as the temperatures rose and fell, until in the distance the sound of rolling thunder interupted.
That's when it happened. I was enjoying the storm. There was no sign of a migraine. I stopped the gentle rocking of my chair and looked around, as if making sure I was not missing something. Then, slowly I relaxed and began to rock again, breathing deeply the lavendar-scented air, soaking the warmth of my blanket, trying to capture a permanent impression of how it felt to enjoy a thunderstorm again, just in case the next time I'm not as blessed as I was in that moment.
