For the past 3 days I have had non-stop double vision and ear ringing. Along with this, on and off, I have extreme dizziness, migraine-like pain in the back of my head (on both sides), and nausea.
I was in the hospital over the weekend and they ran me through a battery of tests (MRI, CTScan, blood work) all of which showed nothing. I had an eye exam last week and there were no problems there.
This is starting to sound to me like a basilar migraine. And I have read that triptans are contraindicated for this type, and indeed when I tried that at first (thinking the double vision was just a new type of aura) it didn't seem to help.
The fioricet does not appear to be much help either. It masks the pain okay but does nothing for the vision or ringing.
I can't get into my doctor until Wed... and I also cacn't work since I can't see to read and I'm a technical writer. And the preventative (prozac) they put me on weeks ago won't kick in for at least another week if it works at all.
Does anyone out there have any ideas how to abort a basilar type migraine (if indeed that is my problem)? My migraines have occassionally gone on for weeks at a time and I need something to help me now before I go totally crazy sitting around with my eyes closed.
