I had iv infusion two weeks in a row. I had a terrible migraine that wouldn't let up, so my nero ordered home health. I had it for three days and the migraine went away. But once the meds stopped and the iv was removed, about 28 hours later the migraine returned with a vegenace. I wound up with 3 more days of iv treatment. I tried to go to the ER to seek help, thinking it would be quicker, what a joke, we waited for six hours and I got sicker and sicker, they told us it would be at least another five before I was seen, by then it was 10pm. We chose not to wait, I was in too much pain. I was sick all the way home, took a Maxalt, phenegran, and fell asleep until about 5am. Called my nerologist at 8:30 am and told them what was going on, my doctor called me back at 10am and told me he wanted to admit me but because he is not on staff at the right hospital for my insurance we both agreed to try another round of home health. By noon I had not heard from the home health agency (very odd) so I call them, they had not received anything from the doctor. To make a long story shorter...it took all afteroon to make an employee of the doctors office do his job and fax the correct information to the home health agency so I could get the help I needed, he finally did it at 4pm! What is wrong with people, why don't they care? I finally got my iv hooked up (after 6 sticks) at 10:30 pm. The only saving grace for me was, my nerologist wrote a script for oral demoral and my hubby picked it up for me and I got some relief from that around 7pm.
I have made an appt, with another nerologist which is affliated with the right hospital, but equally important, I want a doctor, who has a staff that cares. Unfortunately my doctor now is terrific, but his staff doesn't give a darn about the patients. And a doctor is only as a good as his staff because you have to interact with them as well.
Well, I hope and pray my migraine is truly gone now, at least for awhile!

I am so sorry for all your trouble. I have been in that situation before and things just seem hopeless. I'm sorry the headache came back immediately - it did not work that way for me. And, I also have a Ketamine nasal spray for use in between infusions and it works very well....
Thanks for the support, its appreciated. I have not needed iv infusion since the second go round, I have come close a time or two but sheer will I think saw me through! Actually lots of prayer, stubborness, and luck!
I have not heard of the Ketamine Spray but I am glad it works well for you. I just keep hoping when I get a migraine that it resolves with my home meds and I don't have to call the doctor, I know what he usually says, time for iv's, not fun stuff.
Hope you are migraine free today.
Lori
I wish that for you too! Being able to deal with things at home is always better and easier. My greatest fear is the ER! I wish you all the pain free days that can be had.
