Good morning, my "friends."
I don't post often, and don't interact much, but everyone here has made such a difference in my life that I feel comfortable referring to you as "friends."
I am a widow, and my only child left home for college last fall. I've had migraines as long as I can remember, but they only became unmanageable about six months before my daughter left for college. Not wanting to detract from that important and memorable part of her life, I got through it with the so-called help of my family doctor. Once she left for school, I asked for a referral to a neurologist, thinking surely he would be able to help me in short order. Hah!
Last Christmas, a friend gave me copy of Living Well with Migraine Disease and Headaches. It rocked my world -- in a very good way! Because of that book -- Thank you, Mrs. Robert -- I tracked down this site in January. I asked questions, read articles, found a migraine specialist, printed out your guide to a good doctor's appointment, and went armed with my book and list of questions to my first appointment with the specialist.
The specialist helped me figure out my triggers, with the help of the diary I got here. He started by changing my blood pressure drugs to something that could help prevent my migraines, and it helps. I could make a long story of this, but the short version is that I was more ready to work WITH him because of what I'd learned here. That made finding answers and better treatment come faster. I still have a ways to go before I can say my migraines are well managed, but now I know that day will come.
Teri Robert may know she helped me because she answered the questions I posted. Teri, if you don't know, let me tell you. You helped me -- a lot. Every time I search for migraine stuff online, your name comes up. It was pretty cool to have my questions answered by you, and you took the time to answer them in detail. Thank you.
Lots of others here helped me too, though you never realized it. I'm usually a very quiet person. Today though I have to speak up to thank all of you who so generously tell your stories, answer people's questions, and share of yourselves. Reading what you say here gave me information, courage, and strength. Nancy Bonk and Dr. Krusz, I also learned from your answers and thank you.
Well, this is getting long and gooey. It's time for me to wrap it up. I just want you to know that everyone here has helped me, and I am grateful.
with blessings to all,
Mags
