HEMIPLEGIC MIGRAINE HELP PLEASE!!!! dESPERATE!!!!

By Daniellewhit Sunday, April 17, 2011

36 yr old mother of three beautiful children and have been happily married for almost 17 years and this stupid disease is controlling my life! I can not work and had to medically withdraw from school where I was trying to go back and obtain my BS in Nursing and then my Masters. I had a 4.0 and had to withdraw because I have had 10 "seizures" from my hemiplegic migraines in the past two months and my short term memory is crap! My husband and children are total nervous wrecks because they are always worried another one will hit! the neurologists in our town say they can't help me because my condition is too complicated, and my primary doctor wants to send me to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fl, but our stupid insurance has denied and says the BCBS dr. thinks we should be able to find someone here in Georgia to help! Well where the heck are they!???!!??? You get treated horribly if you end up having a seizure in public and and end up in an emergency room , because they don't understand the condition and God forbid they take the 5 seconds it would take to look it up on a computer!!! I want and need help sooooo badly not just for me but also for my family so we can get our lives back!! Anybody with advice?

Hello, and welcome to MyMigraineConnection.com!

I have a few pointers for you that may be helpful. First, your health insurance through your employer? If so, you may want to talk with the human resource department and find out what the policy is on seeing a doctor that is out of area when the doctors IN YOUR AREA say you are "too complicated" for them!

Second, we are updating our patient recommended Migraine specialist list on this site, but you can see a current one on Helpforheadaches.com. There may be a doctor who you can access in a bordering state.

Third, what about an appeal with BCBS? Certainly there is an appeal process, and again, if your primary wants you to go see a Migraine specialist (best to pick the doctor, not the clinic) he should be able to help you with an appeal.
