I need help with fioricet

By Linda Wednesday, December 19, 2007
I need help, the doctor prescribed fioricet (well the generic, says bitalibital/apap/caffeine tabs. It only says take one tablet by mouth as needed. HOW OFTEN can I take them??? Does anyone know? I know they have tylenol in them which means I need to be careful not to overdose on it and kill my liver! I've been up most of the night, it isn't doing much for me at all. I plan to call the doctor as soon as they open. I have wrote down exactly how I've been feeling, what I've been feeling, and all that. It went down into my neck/shoulder and had my boyfriend rub my neck with linament thinking the migraine was making my neck muscles tense up. It was so painful I thought I was going to pass out, went down my right arm like  a live wire. I had him stop right away. When I lay down the pressure is huge in the right side of my skull. Sitting up its a little less but the orbit around my eye still hurts and the aching in my skull is still present. My vision is being assaulted too. All this because I tried to eat a dumb hot dog yesterday. <sigh> No more of them!

You can also check with the pharmacy - they should be able to help you.

Calling the Pharacy or the Doctor's on call line right away for the number of pills and how often is the best way to handle the dosage.  While I have taken Fioricet for years what I'm suppose to take vs what your doctor want you to take could be two very different things!!  And you want to take the correct amount.

Take care Linda and I hope you are feeling better soon.  The Fioricet will probably put you to sleep.

Linda,

Did you reach your doctor or pharmacist. The instructions I've been given on Fioricet were every four hours as needed, but you need to check with your own doctor on this. Beyond that, Fioricet shouldn't be taken more than two or three days a week because of the potential for rebound headaches.

I have a question. Have you ever taken any of the Migraine abortive medications such as the triptans -- Imitrex, Maxalt, Zomig, Amerge, Relpax, Axert, or Frova?

Yes, I have taken the triptans and can't take them. I have problems with racing heartbeat and also rebound migraines with them. My family doctor tried pretty much all of them and said stay clear of them. I'm waiting from a call from the doctor now.
