My Ghostly Shadow

By SEG Saturday, April 19, 2008

It's there but it's not

A pale shadow in the realm of everyday life

Ignore it and it will vanish

Look to close and it will envelop you whole.

Every single minute of every single day

The ghost whose name is "migraine"

Plots and schemes from within

To overcome, overpower, to succeed, to win.

It's a back and forth battle

About power and pain

Dominance is the prize

With control the name of the game.

Some folks are lucky and some are not

The difference plain to see on your face

If the ghost is in charge

There's no place anywhere left to hide.

For it consumes every aspect

Every moment, every thought

The fallout is horrific

Fun and pleasure it is not.

For those who keep fighting

This ghost of pain and despair

Take heart in the world changing

Surely someone out there must care!

To be or not to be from Shakesperian time

Is the daily mantra we sing

We must outrun the "demons" and

Pray someday "migraine" will have no way to win.

Your poem is so touching - it brought tears to my eyes. I feel your paiin, and I hate that you have to suffer as I do, but your words make me know someone else understands what I live with. Thank you for sharing your work.
