Migraine w/no pain & visual impairment for 18 days...

By Marcella Bailey Thursday, June 14, 2007

Anybody heard of having a painless migraine that causes terrible vision loss that lasts a couple of weeks and slowly comes back completely?

Thats what the neurologist tells me happened!  Oh ya, MRI and all that done to rule out stroke, etc....................................

Thanks

Acephalgic or Silent Migraine is just that, a Migraine attack without the headache phase. I'm not sure what you mean by "vision loss that lasts a couple of weeks and slowly comes back completely?" During the arua phase of a Migraine attack it is not uncommon to have flashing lights, wavy vision or blurred vision. Have you had your eyes examined by an eye doctor? That may be a place to start. Also this article, Anatomy of Migraine, discusses the four phases of a Migraine attack and is quite helpful.

Marcella,

A Migraine without the headache is often described as "acephalgic" or "silent." You can read more about that in our article, Acephalgic or Silent Migraine – The Basics. Without a more detailed description of your "vision loss," it's hard to know what other information to share with you. Do you have other symptoms during these attacks? Any nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to sound?

In any case, welcome to MyMigraineConnection!

Hello!

4 day's ago I woke up with what I thought was something in my right eye but come to find after a few minutes it was a black spot in my right peripheral vision.  After a trip to the ER the following day, the opthalmologist did some tests and cleared me from any emergency I returned the following day for a field visual test which indicated nothing was wrong. i explained to him there is a spot I cant see in my right peripheral vision and my eyes were sensitive to light with the occasional tension around my eye and a few nudges of pain on the top of my head and my right temple. Not a migraine. He indicated everything was normal. I'm still having the shady vision with a spot I cant see at all..no headaches. I've been so depressed and sad that I'm going to lose my vision completely. This is the first comment i've found that is related to my situation with some good news.  any advice would be much appreciated! I'm 36 yr old female. No history of migraines not even in my family. I have 20/20 vision!!!

Hi,

You definitely need to find out what this is. Also, unexplained head pain should always be investigated. Statistically, the head pain is unlikely to be anyting serious, but you don't want to find yourself on the wrong end of the statistics.

Have you been to your regular doctor? If not, that should be your next step. If he can't explain it, it's time to check with a neurologist. You might also want to get a second opinion and redo the visual fields test with another ophthalmologist.

When looking for a family history of Migraine, be sure to ask about "sick headaches" and sinus headaches. Many people are never diagnosed with Migraine, but refer to sick headaches. At least 90% of what people think are sinus headaches are actually Migraines. So, do check that out in your family history.

Whatever is going on, you need to find out what it is, both to be safe and to relieve your worries.

Good luck,

Teri

Not specifically, but neuro told me migraine can have any or all of the symptoms of stroke. The difference is stroke is permanent and migraine temporary. Can't remember my specific symptom at the time, but I was wondering if I had had a stroke.

I have been experiencing strange sensations in my head for four years off and on.These episodes consist of lightheadedness, tingling, brainfog, feeling as though my head is outside of my head, eye disturbance, I have been told that it probably is painless migraine. I hope this info. helps someone.

At first I thought I may have diabetes because I would have sudden brain fog temp loss of memory.  Then it got worse I had all the symptoms of having a stroke even my left side went numb and I had loss of strength, I slurred my speach and couldn't focus. I had some strange things happen with my eyes. I had tingling in my temples and head.

I even had times went I forgot how I got to the store. I thought I had Alzheimer's.

The doctor's did all kinds of tests to rule out other medical conditions. They diagnosed me with Mirgraines most of which have no pain at all.  I take a medication called Verapamil which helps me so it doesn't get so bad.  If anyone knows of any other better medicine please let me know.
