shocks of pain

By Tonya Monday, January 11, 2010

I have migraines at least 3 times a week. During some of my attacks I have shocking sensations that run through my head and sometimes down my right side. There have been times when I feel a "pop" in the back of my head, on my right side, behind my ear. I don't know how to describe it other than a pop. I hear a sound and there is slight pain. A few weeks ago, while driving, I had one of these. It was the worst feeling I ever had. I pulled to the side of the road and could not stop crying. I was in more pain than I felt when I broke my leg. I still am not sure what happened. I worry that this will happen again.. maybe worse next time. If you know what this could be or if you have experienced somthing similar I would love to hear about it.

I forgot to give you some info. This is not to make you panic, just get some information and good care.

Anyone who has three or more Migraines a month needs to be talking with their doctor about prevention. There's growing evidence that Migraine is a progressive brain disease. A recent study showed that Migraines can cause brain damage, and that people with three or more Migraines a month are more susceptible to this damage. For more information, see Is Migraine a Progressive Brain Disease? and Yes, Migraines Can Cause Brain Damage.

If your doctor isn't able to help you, it may well be time to consult a Migraine and headache specialist. It's important to note that neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.

There ya go!

Nancy
