Finally found something that helps!

By LiSaG Tuesday, June 08, 2010

Hi All,

I thought I'd share my victory with you! I hope it encourages you! Wink

I've tried several things for migraine since I've been diagnosed, including: various meds over four years, vitamins, regular exercise, massage therapy, chiropractic care, accupuncture, giving up caffeine at various times, trying two different diets for extensive periods of time, and I'm probably forgetting a few other desperate measures I've tried for migraines that I was getting mostly every other day.

After reading Teri's book three years ago which encouraged me to stay strong and keep trying various things to see if they would help, I finally found a medication which is helping! I'm on 20 mg/day of Fluoxetine, an SSRI. I still get migraines about once a week, but this is a huge improvement for me considering how I was before. I also cut out caffeine (but I just couldn't give up dark chocolate...but I eat it in moderation).

At first I was on 10 mg/day, but noticed it helping a little bit. When I increased my dosage to 20 mg/day, I noticed a huge difference right away and went without a miraine for almost two weeks!

I'm still able to take a triptan for a migraine when I have one since I'm not experiencing any side effects which could indicate serotonin syndrome. My doctor warned me to be careful about this.

Now that I feel more energy I am able to keep going on other measures such as energy to cook healthy meals and exercise more. I hope to keep improving!

Not everyone will benefit from exactly the regimen I'm on, but I encourage you to keep trying different things! You just might find something that will work! It took me four years, and it might take you longer or shorter, but keep at it under the care of a doctor who understands.

God Bless you all,

Thanks Nancy!

I've actually been a part of mymigraineconnection.com for a few years now, but I changed my sign-in name from "lisav" to "lisag" since I recently got married. I totally understand why you would be confused. But, thanks for the re-welcome! You and Teri are so very welcoming around here!

Love,
