Sunday, October 25, 2009 at 08:53 PMThank-you Melanie. I am really lucky, my Dr. started out as an admired colleague and then I became a patient but I have a very close relationship with him and he just wouldn't give up. I have tried Inderal as a preventative but not as an abortive , very interesting. I will keep everyone posted. I feel all of this was worth it if I can help others out there, and I know I am a better nurse because of it. It is just day by day right now to see how long it lasts, I came across another study where same procedure I just had done, but it is done with cocaine and it was stating it had longer lasting results , and those patients were able to administer at home as well, just adding it to my collection of info! Thanks again

Monday, November 02, 2009 at 10:39 AMThanks for your post. Even though the pain relief was "only" 10 days, I am sure you felt like making a PSA on TV and telling the world! It feels wonderful to be normal again, if only for a few hours.
I am going to a pain specialist next week, and will definitely ask about the procedure. If I find out anything new, I'll let y'all know.

Tuesday, November 03, 2009 at 02:00 PMthank-you everyone for your encouragement and support. I had repeat procedure, by different dr, several days later with almost instantaneous relief -it really does feel like a miracle. But it only lasted about 7 hrs.I did not limit my activity post procedure and was very active, i was so joyous. Dealt w/ pain for another 4 days , and had repeat procedure by original dr. and I am taking it easy this afternoon, pain is minimal 2/10.My dr. told me no need to limit activity, but I am doing what worked the first time. My dr. also wants me to try a "rescue method " of this procedue that is done at home with lidocaine and cotton swab applicators, my husband and I both received education. The next step would be ablation of the nerve in this area which is more involved. Will keep everyone updated. If anyone else is doing a type of sphenoid block at home, I would love to here from you, there are various methods and several pain dr.s in my area using it, I am now finally finding out.hope this can be of help to some one. The cost is just another whole issue and we are just racking up bills and worrying about that later, but I am blessed to have insurance, although it covers less and costs more. My heart breaks for those with out and we all need to band together so everyone can have access to care.I saw an interview from another country and they said rather than looking at it as "socialized" they consider it "civilized".

Hello tliancrain,
Wow, your story is amazing. After all you've gone through, I hope this lidocaine block continues to give you full pain relief for a good long time to come. Thank goodness your pain doc went to that conference! Sounds like this procedure could be of great interest to those living with intractable migraine pain.
I've often wondered if there are methods of treating migraine that have gotten overlooked or "lost" in the shuffle of time. I once came across a paper from the early 1970's that presented use of Inderal as a successful migraine abortive rather than preventive, a use that seems to have gone by the wayside now.
Again, congratulations on ten pain free days, and good luck for the days ahead! Please keep us posted on your progress.
