    I am presently taking Maxalt 10mg for migraine. I suffers with a headache regular, about three times a week. The medicine does me no good, and my head continues to hurt. Then he tried me on some Inderal which is a beta blocker and causes my head to hurt extra bad. Can you please help? My head hurts so bad sometimes it it debilitating. Vetia.

    Dear Vetia;

     

    Maxalt is one of the Migraine abortive medications called triptans. There are seven of them -- Imitrex, Maxalt, Zomig, Amerge, Relpax, Axert, and Frova. Since the Maxalt isn't working, talk with your doctor about trying some of the others. He should have samples that you can try before filling an expensive prescription.

    Inderal is often prescribed as a Migraine preventive, but it may not be the right medication for you. How long have you been taking it. If you recently started it, the increase in Migraines could settle down as you get used to it. Talk with your doctor about other preventives.     It sometimes takes time and patience, but with all the medications available, it's quite possible to find the right treatment regimen for you. If you don't make progress with your current doctor, it may be time to seek care with an actual Migraine specialist.
