I get a lot of migraines and my legs and feet ache all the time. I haven't noticed they were related to my migraines. I'm not sure because there is not a single day I get up in the morning that my legs and feet aren't aching. I have a migraine about 8-12 days a month. I was searching online for why my legs and feet ache all the time and I came across this. My hands often feel slightly achy and puffy too but its mostley my legs and feet. I'm really tired of feeling this way and I am physically exhausted from it. Maybe there's still a lot to learn about migraines. I'm really curious now about whether my achiness is related to the migraines.
Reading your story, I felt like I was reading my own. I am 49, and have lived with migraines since my middle 20's. The last 10 or so they have gotten worse and are somewhat diffferent. I to have pain and heaviness in my legs and sometimes my arms everyday. I take Naproxen and a low dose Tramadol for it. I an waiting to find out if I have Lupus, my ANA blood test came back positive for an Autoimmune Disease. Two weeks ago I had an MRI, and then a CT Scan, from which I found out I have Microvascular Disease in my Brain. From what I have read, they are just starting to find out how much damage is done to our brains when we have as many migraines as we do a month. Don't stop at one doctor if he or she isn't trying to find answers. I have waited to long, just began to think this is the way the rest of my life would be like. (Have been taking Relpax when I get a migraine). If it is Lupus, there is not just one test for it, there are many. Waiting on those now. Please read up on Autoimmune Disease, and never stop looking for answers.
My daughter has the leg pain for days as well. Her CT scan, MRI, and EEG were all normal. Her migraines are triggered by light. The head pain goes away after a day but she has so much pain in her legs that she is bed for days. The doctors have never seen this before. You are the first person who mentioned them as well. Maybe they should be studied together.
I've found that after my migraines, I'm often magnesium deficient. Magnesium helps in part with electrical firing in the body, easing muscle cramps and aiding nerve function. Both of those are hugely necessary for me after a migraine, and it doesn't hurt to take the supplement on a regular basis. When I have restless legs in the night, I often get up and take magnesium and experience relief. Also try Gatorade and SmartWater to rebalance electrolytes in the body. I've found that both my muscle aches and migraines are highly related to my electrolyte levels. Good luck!
my daughter uses Dr.Linder in Dallas! He's awesome. She has NDPH and has been ill since Oct. 2007. She has suffered with leg cramps the entire time. Dr.Linder told us it was normal part of New Daily Persistent Headache.
Hi. I have been getting migraines since I was 19. I have noticed that after a migraine my legs and feet are often sore and feel like I had a major workout the day before eventhough I hadn't. Sometimes before the migraines starts about 2 hrs before I have stiffness in my arms and hands. I told my Neurologist and he dismissed the whole thing. Frankly, I feel doctors only know so much about migraines and they are so complex that when new stuff comes up it is easier to dismiss is. My Dr. also suggested I had fibromyalgia but isn't that a daily or chonic disease like migraine? When are we going to stop labeling patients with a host of diseases? My motto if you have experienced it you do not need a Dr. to affirm what is happening.
