I get this all of the time.  And, have had it for years.

I feel kind of "stoned" like my brain is full of novacaine.

I have trouble typing, putting words together; like I'm not

fully here. Numbness in my hands, face;  Have had repeated MRI's, etc.

I've been told by my neurologist that it's aura.  Sometimes I have it

w/no head pain at all.  Just have these feelings, usually in the front

of my brain.

I have had this for over 5 years, and now can tell a pattern that always happens in the same way each time I get a migraine.  First my peripheral vision gets very blurry, then my hands start to go numb, as well as one side of my face, my gums, my lips, and my arm all the way to the elbow.  I have instant confusion, at some times I'm not able to make coherent sentences, feel very confused and disoriented, dizzy.  I can not type, or even dial a phone number when this occurs.  Usually the numbness and dizziness pass within 24 hours and are not always followed by a migraine headache.  I've been told this is part of a visual migraine, and to learn the triggers.  I've found that the number one trigger was my birth control.  I tried many different types and was unable to be on any type other than an IUD.  My symptoms decreased and I only get about 1-2 of these per year now.  They are also instantly triggered by any 'fake' sugar product or diet drinks.  Stay away from these if you can!  Unfortunately migraine medicines can not stop the dizziness and numbness, you've just got to get through them.  I usually take a nap and hope for the best.

Celestel,

Hello and welcome!

You said, "Unfortunately migraine medicines can not stop the dizziness and numbness, you've just got to get through them." What kind of Migraine meds are your referring to? Migraine abortive meds will often stop all symptoms, including dizziness and numbness.

What do you take when you get a Migraine? Research is showing that Migraine meds work better taken early in the Migraine. For some of us, taking Migraine abortive meds when we first notice the aura (if we get one) gives us much better results.

Welcome again,

Teri
