If you haven't already, you may want to try swimming for exercise.

Hi..I hope if you find something out, you will let me know. I have a son, 15, who has had this problem since he was 2 yrs old. He can't do anything exertion wise or even if he gets too hot..if he  does, 90 % of the time, he has severe migraine and has to sleep..sometimes it's an hour, sometimes its til the next day..I have been taking him everywhere for 13 yrs. He was diagnosed with cyclic vomiting syndrome 5 yrs ago. Took him to different neurologist last week. going to do EEG and MRI...I can't help you, but maybe we can help each other if we find anything out.

Hi there!

As we said, heat and exercise are very common Migraine triggers.

You said you've been taking your son "everywhere." Have you taken him to a Migraine specialist? It's important to note that neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.

Please keep us posted?

hi...just thought id let you know of my experience it may help.I had been getting heat induced migraine since i was 18 and im now 45.. 3 yrs ago i went to an accupuncturist for a different issue and when she found out i had migraine started to treat me. It was only then i found out that my migraines were caused by heat. I had been to a pile of doctors and had been on lots of medications but nothing worked and no one knew what caused them. So after 5 sessions of accupuncture i have had 1 small migraine in 3 yrs. I would strongly recommend you try this as it was a life saver for me. One peice of advice though use chinese accupunture not japanese and i also had to have chinese herbal remedies for 14 days. Its a horrible affliction and i cant tell you how glad i am it stopped. Good luck with your son

We actually have taken him to ER's on SEVERAL occasions, especially when he was younger. Chicago Children's hospital diagnosed him with CVS..(cyclic vomiting syndrome).

He still has a lot of problems with the migraines when he over does it..actually, he doesn't have to overdo it, just anything fast paced, exerted, etc.  MRI and EKG came back clean last month, so thats good.

Thank you both for your help!  I will check into the acupuncture thing.

I am 57 years old and have been suffereing with migraine headaches after sports and exertion which make me hot. This is a problem living in sunny South Africa where all sports end up in a hot enviroment, there is not cold winter here. Since a young age after school sports like rugby and athletics i would have to sleep after vomitting after any sporting activity. Now i am managing my headaches through physiotherapy of my back and neck and that helps. however the heat and exertion headaches still plague me. Sometimes i am able to control it by applying cold water to my head via sweat bands or wetting inside my helmet, i race motor cycles, but it is only temporary control. A few years back i was prescribed 1/2 a Cafergot Tablet before any sporting activity. At the time i was cycling and would end up dosing my head in water and taking Grandpa Headache Powders which are addictive. The Cafergots were in conclusive to me so i stopped them being nervious about addiction. i,m still looking for a cure

I totally understand the frustration with the heat/exertion induced headaches.  I've had them for about 10 years now and nothing really works except just knowing when to stop exercising and not letting myself get too hot. Sometimes it's unavoidable though.  I've ended up in the ER after just attending an outdoor birthday party during 80 degree weather.  Even if it's only 30 degrees and I overexert myself to the point of sweating, I'll have a migraine.  Mine don't occur though until 2 - 3 hours afterwards.  I've had all kinds of testing and no reason was found.  I've just decided it is something I have to live with.  I will tell you though that 1/2 a Lorcet at the on-set will stop the migraine from progressing.  I try not to take them unless absolutely necessary and sometimes I wait too long.
