I just recently had a TEE to rule out patent foramen ovale. My migraines have left me with permanent numbness on my left lateral side including my face. after all the tests, the best diagnosis i can get is hemiplegic migraine. everything i read says the numbness should go away. mine never has though. the mri and mra of my brain and carotids were normal. the only thing that makes my symptoms of numbness worse is extreme heat conditions, which can last for weeks on end afterwards. it isn't MS either. anybody have any thoughts.

Wow, this sounds so familiar to me...My MRI came back clear, but I have crazy numbing on my left side.  It's mostly in the face, but it does sometimes travel down the arm & leg.  They diagnosed it a migraine, but I don't have a "headache", I do have the PFO.  The left side of my face doesn't ever feel the same as the right.  I'm just trying to figure this all out?  Any treatment/ideas working?

    Ditto!!!

I have numbness throughout my left side, but deep inside, like my gut is hollow or I have no skeleton (I know that sounds freaky).  It gets more pronounced after heavy exercise or when I am tired/stressed.

I have a great neurologist who diagnosed me as having a migraine disorder.  The numbness never goes completely away.  I have no pain, no headaches.

Lamotrigine (125 mg 2xday) helps a lot!  Of course under doctor's directives.   It makes the symptoms greatly reduced.

This animation shows one of the key causes of pain during a migraine--changes to the blood flow within the brain.
