Allergic to pain killers and I 'inherited' migraine?

by  Ask the Clinician
Monday, July 21, 2008

Full Question:

I'm allergic to pain killers and I 'inherited' migraine. What should I do? Winson.

Answer:

Dear Winson,

Have you seen a doctor and been diagnosed with Migraines?

Neither of us have ever heard of anyone being allergic to all pain medications. Beyond that, pain medications aren't considered the first choice for Migraine treatment. Migraine abortive medications are a better choice for most people. Take a look at Preventive, Abortive, and Rescue Medications - What's the Difference? for more information on abortive medications.

If your doctor doesn't know how to help you, it's time for a new doctor. Look below for a link to our listing of patient recommended Migraine and headache specialists. There ARE treatments available.

Good luck,
John Claude Krusz and Teri Robert
