I also suffer with migraines and I understand how you feel. I would do almost anything to get rid of these headaches! But, a hysterectomy is not the answer. I had a hysterectomy and ovaries removed (due to endometriosis) at age 37. That was thirteen years ago. I am now 50 years old and my migraines have never been this bad. I am now on daily preventive medicine for them and it doesn't help all the time. The hysterectomy made no difference at all.
For me.....with Migraines......well, I didn't get them as early as you, they started in my 20's. I'm almost 42. But, I had headaches in my teens. I would get terrible pounding headaches "right before," my periods. I then started getting menstrual migraines. Now, I had a total hysterectomy at 37, and my migraines are worse! Don't know why, but they are. The last 3 years have been pure HE.....!
So, there's many things that can cause migraines, and beleive me, I've racked my brain trying to find out what causes mine..............and I still have one answer. Genetic!
Good luck to you. Hang in there.

My name is Dawn, I'm 31 years old, married with 2 young children. I have been suffering with true menstrual migraines for 6 years. My neurologist and gynocologist decided to put me on lupron for 6 months, which shuts down all hormones. I was migraine free for those months. They decided to do a full hysterectomy (I was 27 years old at the time). I was immediately put on estrodiol, and was migraine free for 1 year. Then my migraines started coming back once a month and gradually worked up to every 15 days, which I suffer with constant migraines that won't let up for one week before I can go in for shot, otherwise it won't work...the timing has to be just right.
I thought I was the only one...it's shocking to see how many people suffer like me. I have been on literally every preventative and abortive out there. So now I am stuck in this wicked cycle of demerol injections. They take the migraine away, Thank GOD! But it is really hard to deal with how disruptive it is to my life. My husband is hell bent on the idea that the estrogen is causing it, but I was on the estrogen when I was migraine free for a year...So it couldn't be that right? Has anyone ever tried natural estrogen? If I still get the same benefits from the synthetic, then I would be willing to try...Maybe that would decrease my migraines?
Has anyone had their doc. find out what causes these things? My neurologist keeps telling me there is nothing they can do. My husband and I are trying to find answers on our own but are coming up with nothing. I have 10 days out of the month migraine free. I am trying to stay positive and just enjoy the days that I am not in pain, I guess I just feel like there is something that these doctors are missing.
I got fired from my job for missing too much work, which resulted in us filing bankruptcy, and losing our home. Not to mention constant guilt over putting my kids (ages 4-6) and husband through all of this. They constantly tell me "mommy how come you get headaches...I wish you didn't get them."
We have been fighting disability and social security for 3 years already since they treat people with migraines like a criminal, conartist, fake, fraud, and joke because there are no tests to prove actual illness...and how bad can it be....it's just a headache right???? The word of my primary neurologist, AND my neurologist in MAYO CLINIC (went for a second opinion) isn't enough..! There are no tests that comes back positive or negative to prove one way or the other that someone has a migraine, so they really don't exist right? I WISH!

I just came from my neurologist today and asked about a partial hysterectomy, leaving my ovaries just to get rid of the migraines. I had one so bad a couple weeks ago, it sent me to the ER. I am on daily meds for them, plus I have seizures from the migraines. If I was to have a hysterectomy, I couldn't have my ovaries taken out because I have a blood clotting disorder which means I cannot go on hormones. Now I am scared on what to do!
My doctor is having me try lasix the two weeks before my menstral to see if that helps, along with my other daily meds.
Best of luck with you ladies. I know it may sound bad, but I am relieved to find out I am not alone.
I have had a hysterectomy about 9 years ago... I still have my migraines, and there are times they get worse... I have had them for months at a time, I mean every day and they won't go away... I have found for me, one of the worse things is yogart... The few times I have eaten it put me in the hospital with the worst headaches I have ever had... Needless to say I do not eat yogart... But my migraines have not stopped since my hysterectomy... Don't do it just for that... I am almost 45 years old, I have had migraines since I was 17... My new doctor is working with me at this moment... We are trying a few different things, not real sure which is helping but I was having them at least 5 days a week, now I am having them once or twice a week, I even went 2 weeks in a row... Thanks for all emails, I am always listening and hoping for something that will finally work forever...

I read several opinions on this subject before my hysterectomy. My GYN said due to endometriosis and possible ovarian cancer, I had to have the surgery. I am happy to report that my migraines are gone -- for now. Surgery was in June 2010. Reading the other comments makes me cautious about mine returning. But as for me, personnally, migraines are gone after a complete hysterectomy.
